2 pointsSo, after some trials and tribulations I got the undertray installed today but she's not ready to drop off the stands because the tray fouls the sway bar (at full droop). Perhaps they haven't found the perfect solution? ? It will be easy enough to fix by trimming ~10mm off the rear of the tray but that shouldn't be necessary. I've gone back to Turner, who have been great so far, but I can't imagine what type of solution they can offer. That issues aside the tray is awesome and locks the whole front end, including my new arch liners together, it's far superior to the jumble of stock plastic bits!

2 pointsi vote for the sh2 option,if i was in a 5 series this is what i would do https://www.google.co.nz/maps/dir/Wellington,+New+Zealand/Carterton/Kimbolton/Waiouru/Whakamaru/Te+Awamutu/@-39.6176874,173.103981,7z/data=!3m1!4b1!4m38!4m37!1m5!1m1!1s0x6d38b1fc49e974cb:0xa00ef63a213b470!2m2!1d174.7731458!2d-41.2768778!1m5!1m1!1s0x6d40d0aa7bf21045:0x500ef6143a29906!2m2!1d175.5234367!2d-41.0292088!1m5!1m1!1s0x6d41da6d4b06492b:0x500ef6143a2d580!2m2!1d175.7772892!2d-40.0521342!1m5!1m1!1s0x6d6a6028ea9675a1:0x500ef6143a2b280!2m2!1d175.6684686!2d-39.4785006!1m5!1m1!1s0x6d6c70f11a5ff31b:0x500ef6143a2f290!2m2!1d175.7968837!2d-38.4192133!1m5!1m1!1s0x6d6ce73b69e079a9:0x500ef6143a30af0!2m2!1d175.3257982!2d-38.0101364!3e0 have you got a park in Thorndon? You could leave your car here,on the side of the road but off the road,i could play taxi or we are very near a bus route.

1 pointI’m a new owner of a 335i N54 Need to replace valve cover gasket. Where I can buy it from? Any suggestion?? From FCP Euro $80nzd not OEM that’s good price?
-
1 pointFCP Euro is great, really fast shipping, and cheap if you get a few things at the same time - pretty sure they sell only OEM stuff? Don't get hit with GST either.
-
1 pointIf you need to cut it give me a yell, I have a plasma cutter that will make holes in it!

1 pointIt wont damage the speaker but it will absolutely affect the sound. Do a listening test at the same volume in both configurations. The correct configuration will sound louder and fuller.

1 pointWith the LS1 car build i pretty much used what i had on the shelf rather than rob the 2.8 car for its good stuff. This was a big mistake, the softer rear springs and shocks cause excessive rubbing on the guards, this caused all kinds of issues when on and off the gas and transitioning. Something had to be done... to be continued
-
1 pointHey, this is a bit random but I've acquired this car now and I was wandering if there is a build thread on it?
-
1 pointThat S50B30 developed either rod knock, or some lifter issue. Ended up being pulled and replaced with an S50B32, which is what he ran in it most of the time until deciding to sell that setup and put his spare M52 in. I couldn't find any 328i coupes listed to base a price off, so I'm likely dreaming at this price.

1 pointyeah I know lockdowns over but Prince's estate released this unseen concert New Years Eve, the first from Paisley Park ever where he lived and later died as part of a big box set thing of SOOT. For those that remember 87 fondly its worth a watch
-
1 pointJust daydreaming at this point but an M54 E30 would be amazing

1 pointWhile the intention was to keep drifting cheapish and cheerful it was hard to not to want something with more cylinders, but as we do i love BMW’s and the E36 chassis’ are so cheap and plentiful. Only one solution really, engine swap. This had been on my loose plan for a while, and research showed a lot of work and effort involved in a BMW v8 swap, for not much gain. So when a LS1 swapped coupe came up with a 1/2 cage and T56 i jumped. It was a gamble but the price ($12k) was what it would cost me to build one. Turns out it was rough and poorly done, but the running gear was ok and it saved me 6months of work (add that into the equation and its a win whatever way you look at it lol). So it was chopping, welding, etc to make this thing semi workable for drifting day.
-
1 pointYeah engine under tray off and a pressure test. Can you smell any coolant while driving?
-
1 pointYou haven't specified whether it was pressure tested? If you have the engine tray on you probably ain't going see nothing dripping. Lots of coolant hoses hoses which can leak like ones under the manifold

1 pointSince daar is Bokke hierrrr... Chucked some biltong in the other day brrus...made my own machine...fully acrylic..

1 pointBeen flat out finishing off the cage, painting and getting ready for the Rankleburn Rally on the 10th October. I'm now just bolting it all back together, really happy with how its all turning out. Pretty stoked with the paint on the cage/interior & engine bay turned our for my first crack at painting a car. Took the day off yesterday to get the engine/gearbox in, drivers side is all buttoned up now minus the final install of the dash.Waiting on my LSD to come back, front struts and a bit of reinforcement welding on the trailing arms. Have entered the rally so need to keep smashing this out. Cheers,

1 pointMotors been sump swapped, oil nut tacked, front and rear seals done Z3 steering rack which ill hopefully install this week Have a pair of M3 evo LCAs on their way, will look at suspension options in next month and swap the front over, along with motor etc in

1 point@qube pretty sure he means Sanson. In the Manawatu. There's only one fish and chip shop in town (if you can call it a town)

1 pointI succeeded in installing the new arch liners today, not a terribly difficult job once you've lined everything up and it looks so much better now and they don't flap around in places. I ordered 2 x Turner Motorsport undertrays in the first lockdown (April) and they only arrived the other week. I realised they were on backorder but June slipped to July which slipped to August and then September so I did start to get a little concerned but they arrived well packed in the end, Turners aren't a particularly high risk. But my install attempt failed, they missed sending a rivnut tool with my order but no worries, mate has a mechanical rivnut gun. No bueno. The mandrel on the gun is too short for the longer rivnuts included in the pack and there's no way in hell I can get enough leverage to squeeze the handles to collapse the smaller nuts (which are stronger than the long ones). They've posted the tool and that should be here by next weekend. I have another method to try tomorrow which is essentially the same approach as their tool, we'll see how that goes. Both involve nuts, bolts, spanners and ratchets and, whilst more complex to arrange than with a gun tool (barely) you can lean on a spanner or ratchet assembly so much easier. Regardless, the tray and accompanying hardware is excellent and they've fixed all of the design problems of earlier trays (such as the Motion Motorsport one). I've been waiting so long for a good one. I got two so perhaps I can sort a pattern part? ?

1 pointOne step closer to the edge And imma bout to Approximately 15.5mm on the guard edge, took measurements off front un munched ones and it matches the rear left one minus the crow bar rangi job from beforehand, and rear right one is way off haha. (Looking ok now following some hammer time and filler) Atleast I have something to go off and build to keeping it symetrical. Not fixing this guard flare would have haunted me if I went to respray. They were munched on the rears

1 pointAdrian van Hooydonk is the man responsible for the grills. Side note: If anyone goes over to Germany to slap him, please do me a solid and detour to the AMG factory and also slap the guy that put 20 bolts on a 3 piece engine underbody tray with no oil service flap.
-
1 pointI officially dislike the entire current BMW line up. If I win lotto this weekend I'm not even going to a BMW dealership.

1 pointKayne is the man to see with anything BMW gearbox or diff related. Has been a massive help to me and everyone in the BMW race series over the years. Also he used to rally an E34!!

1 pointagree - they never actually fail! Though whenever I've replaced one (I did a couple of Bosch GT40's back in the late 80's/early 90's on japanese cars, and more recently on my e30 325i, volvo etc), it always seems a little smoother in the range. Thanks! And, oh, since you mention it, there's more where that came from. ? I've been putting together the plan for a "316 iS". Working on the reliability and safety, then handling and stopping, there's lots of parts prep. Some unplanned health issues have slowed me down over the last 5 weeks. Preparing for suspension. Koni Yellows on their way from ebay. Going to match with H&R Sportsprings 29663-1 (-35 + -35mm for 4cyl iS). I've always wanted to do Koni Yellows on one of my cars, and these came up at a reasonable price (used). I remember what @3pedals said last year on my e60 thread, an excellent description here, decided this is the time to have a crack with Koni Yellow. The Eibachs sound a little soft, so H&R it is. I'm more concerned about handling than "lows". New sump gasket ready to go in. Engine and Gearbox mounts. Diff gasket and bushing. Shifter bushings, and maybe a short-shifter. New fluids for the diff and gearbox. Rear: Meyle Subframe Mounts, Lemforder Trailing Arm Bushing Set, Meyle HD Shock Mounts. Koni 80-2522 (general e30 spec, not absolutely perfect for the 318iS, though possibly rebuild as 80-2641 in future if necessary?) Considering conversion to rear disks, a-la 318iS. Front: Sachs strut mounts, BMW Bump Stops, Koni 8641-1210 Sport. new ARB bushes, Meyle HD ARB end links, new wheel bearings. Need to figure out if I have 51mm housings, or need to get them to build with the konis and new parts. LCA and bushes, rack ends seem okay for the mo, so they can wait. I've bought 14" baskets, getting some new rubber. Need to get the rims down from Napier... anyone coming down soon? Some time in the new year it should all start to come together. There are other maintenance items to take care of too. In summary: it's not to be a race car, just a healthy street car that's fun to drive, reliable, teach my kids to drive in, and I may have a go at the Surgery Sprint Series with it next year. I'm not expecting to be particularly competitve, as I'd be a total track novice and it's just a 1.6l M40. But hey, participation and fun, I think I'll have the ingredients for low-budget entry-level track time. PS: I think an M42 conversion will be on the cards, just not until everything else is sorted.
