There’s a good reason for that...

A couple of snaps from Euro & Brit Classic Car Show this weekend. Was a cool day, definitely going back next year. The neighbouring Mercedes Club got sulky over us taking up too much room, made for some nostalgic rivalry. The 15" basketweaves are all refinished now too. I'm so stoked and can't wait to fit some tyres. Any recommendations from anyone on good 205/55r15? Seems to be an odd size with a limited amount of makes. Might go with Falken Ze914 as the reviews and price are pretty good. Also after some form of wheel sealer/wax make cleaning the cross weave design alot easier.

Yeah, sanded right back to the aluminium, 3 coats of etch primer, 3 coats of Acrylic gloss black wet sanded to 2000 w&d, 4 coats of 2k clear again sanded back to 2000 w&d. Then cutting compound, polished and waxed. I’ll be honest it took me nearly 2 weeks and I still haven’t finished the bits for the doors 🤦‍♂️

Added some low voc tape to the inside of the E39 drivers seat back to stop the very annoying squeaking that had started recently - worked a treat.

I wish people would link to listings on TM instead of posting photos.

So actually the cars idle is steady and doesnt bounce around but there is still a fair bit of exhaust rattle. also quite a bit of steering wheel vibration especially around 60-80km/h roughly. Im thinking engine mounts next for sure and probably a wheel alignment. I still havent found the cause of the air hissing noise. Ccv and hose has been replaced already.

@Contrails Problem is trying to find one 😂. They look great, has the same feel as a 635csi. @Sammo Same with this, all autos and seem overpriced

It’s been up for ages, would be a sick car with a manual swap for sure, although not at the asking price. Pretty sure an Estoril Blue Auto Clubsport went for $10k last year (different car).

The E34 535i I used to have was one of the most tail happy cars I have ever owned. It’s heaps of fun.

This has been for sale for a while I believe so could be that it's priced a little high for what it is. But it is a special car. Also not the M3 interior, different seats and no m tex door cards. The clubsports standard option was an m texture interior but the majority of buyers paid for the cost option of extended leather. Wouldn't be surprised if this is the only clubsport with that interior in NZ given how few M3s came to NZ with it.

Dump some weight out of them and they honestly feel the same. Having moved from an E30 Series car to an E34 535. I think my E34 was just over 1200kg's last on the scales. My Series car was whatever the series weight was. Jon might remember. 1175kg's with me in it? The extra size takes a bit to get used to though. And the steering is very light and needs to be underdriven.

E34s are looking like good value to scratch the quad headlight boxy BMW itch too. Can’t imagine they are as fun to throw around a few twisties though.

    I do like the E30. I'd like a 4-cylinder one. But a 6-pot E28 would also provide a very interesting platform.

Yes correct, they don't mention it. They were having too many problems with the EGR valves faulting after the EGR cooler had been replaced so they directed all dealers to replace the complete EGR module.

Have you tried downloading the new version (released end March 21) of the My BMW app? When you add a vehicle to your account you can change the country settings I believe.

Not quite, 14mm spacers underneath, custom or bend the power steering lines, and depending on motor, modify the steering coupling

Curious. For those still trying to buy an E30 in this market. Why? Investment?

Pretty good. Certainly far better on slippery surfaces than 2wd. The system is pretty robust. It uses the same engines and auto trans as the 2wd cars, but that's where similarities end. There's a gear/chain transfer case from which a propshaft runs forward and back (to viscous diffs - a potential weak point). The bodyshell is wider and almost completely different forward of the windscreen: front suspension towers are further forward, arches are wider, trans tunnel is much wider (you'll not 'stretch' a stock one that far). The steering rack is behind the front crossmember and mounted inside the subframe. The front driveshafts can strip the splines at the transfer case. They're great for daily driving, especially in Europe where snow is common, but not so good for tuning. The rallycross cars used Xtrac gearboxes and different axles to contain the extra power used.

Exactly what does locked away mean- driven once a year or so I guess? I have two very humble excellent condition low km modern classic cars and keep them locked away. One rego on hold and the other up to date and does get driven once a month or so. It keeps her out there and lubed up, but not so much that she gets stone chips or other damage from UV etc. My old henna e30 is starting to look attractive again to me, and i see is still for sale...

Exactly one? On the contrary. I know a couple of people interested (not merely spectating).

I'm out of the running at $40K+ 😤 was looking forward to getting some of those E30 M3 value gains over the next few years. Will have to settle for an insurance adjustment on the current E30. We took a genuine one owner sub 125K km Brilliantrot example on trade for a new 1M and sold it to the CJ dealer principle the same day for $17K in 2011. Have they doubled in price in 10 years? Yes they have. Are they worth double? Probably not. As @Olaf alluded to, there's been a few off books trades of M325i's recently, but they're hardly representative of the market, seeing as the buyers pool for those trades is exactly one. Fag packet calculations would suggest there's still 34(+) kiwi new MT2 M325i's floating around, and I bet this auction sees another couple of cars come to market - perhaps the white M325i down in Dunedin that sold in hours preempted this sale? I'd argue the white car was the better purchase however... ...Speaking of "is this where the E30 market is now?" This 325i SE/a at 19K is absolutely laughable, I mean, reserve not met ffs!!

This is the crux of it - at least us plebs will have an idea of what this one is 'worth'
  27. 1 point
But there was. Last year. Before Covid. More original. Just 51k kms, never had paint. It didn't see the market, though. Just quietly changed hands thank you very much. I'd "blame" us catching up with some of the prices in Europe and rest of world. Made a bundle in your property portfolio? Why not buy that car you've always wanted. Missed out on Property as the market went ballistic? Why not have a flutter on that appreciating e30?

To be fair, with the state of the roads, unsealed road works etc. And the retarded NZ tail gating driver who take more interest on their phone than what is in front of them. I'd be hesitant on driving something like that regularly. Maybe on the more quieter back roads. Defiantly not in the cities or on state highways.

Oh yeah! That is lovely @Sammo. Clearly been a garage queen, no paint fade.

My friends old car, he sold it 2 months ago.. Then that buyer sold it again - my friend had a feeling this would happen but is what it is. Imported via Hong Kong - car had a little rust issues here and there but in good condition overall. It was advertised for 28k now jacked to 48k because hes taken a deposit. Makes me happy keeping my E30 😎

Off topic but this is on par with the $19k e30 auto. Dude is apparently firm with the price.
