Using the weekend to go gun-ho on things Spent about 4 hours on the bumper today. Did what I could with the heat gun to get it near enough, cable ties in place to test fit and check it all mounts nicely. Fibre glassing took some time as I chewed through my 40grit sand paper supply Did it by hand as I didn't have an orbital with soft backing and 40grit discs Pretty happy with it, light years from what it was

Hey guys, new addition to the stable, 1996 M3 EVO. Sounds fun right? Well... Day 1 - Caught fire, Day 2 broke injector loom and 2x injectors. Cant wait for day 3,4 5.... (sigh) Theres a bit of a story behind this purchase, a few years ago i had an e46 M3, i sold it when i shouldn't have but family circumstances at the time required attention. Since then I've been up to my eyeballs in e36's, and for the last 18moths had a real hankering for an EVO, i looked at a full blown targa race car and was silly not to put an offer in, it was more than i wanted but since then the prices have sky rocketed as you likely have seen. These days a super tidy low km EVO is $40k, well out of my price range and even if i did make the leap i wouldn't feel comfortable thrashing it and doing some car club events. So i put the word out and come across this 1996 EVO, its 293,000, Singapore car imported back in 2000, actually has the service book stamped right up till 212,00kms. Its pretty rough, and has spent a few years sitting around (last wof in 2016 but rego is on hold), but, and this was the kicker for me, it had some serious love from Kayne Barry about 8 years ago who amongst other things installed a bolt in 1/2 cage and bucket seats, modifications i wanted to do. a heap of work was done fixing leaks, checking the box, diff. Has XYZ's and braided lines and is certified. But it requires a MSNZ authority card, no biggie as i planned on getting my license. Best of all it was a price that im comfortable flinging it around the track and events. Im really looking forward to getting to know this car and hope its a keeper, it needs a lot of love and attention after years of neglect (paint is atrocious) But first things first it needs to run! as you no doubt figured by now the fuel system appears to be shot, so im hoping an injector refurb (or maybe upgrade?), tank empty and new filter will see it back up and running, a couple of cam lobes showing signs of wear, but the rest look good. Any advice/experience with these EVO's would be appreciated, probably about time i tried to learn INPA now too. Thanks

Hi all Newish owner of my first BMW, a 2010 535i. Loving it so far though it has needed the water pump replaced in my 6 months of ownership. Learning a bit about what I can do myself re coding etc, having bluetooth for calls but not music is a bit of a struggle to cope with. I've got myself an obd scanner and bimmercode so that's one of my projects to work on. If anyone has updated nz maps they can pm me in the right direction of would be greatly appreciated too. Also loving some of the projects on here that people are undertaking.

Yeah, exactly. Thread is turning into “things you could buy for the same money as a V10 M5 Touring, that aren’t (as cool as) a V10 M5” Like a lot of classic Bimmers, such as E30 M3, etc, there are lots of arguably better value alternatives. But if you WANT the classic Bimmer, that is the only car that will scratch that itch.

Hi, Due to moving overseas I have to urgently part with my long-term project, much too soon for my liking. It's a manual 1996 NZ New 318i Touring with 235,000kms. Car is drivable, but rego has been on hold for about 18 months - I was using it for about a year until I decided to put it on hold when I started commuting by motorbike - so it should probably be trailered away. Pros: Fairly rare NZ New Touring Factory manual Headlining and A pillar trims were re-clothed professionally, using a darker material Purple tag steering rack Leather front seats Comes on staggered 17" style 68s with pretty new, high quality chinese tyres (probably done less than 1000kms on them) - 215/45/17 front, 235/45/17 rear New boot struts Cons: Rough body - needs a little TLC - has a few small surface rust spots, couple small dents and needs a new paintjob as clearcoat is flaking Rear seats are a bit rough A few minor bits of interior trim missing Bonus - as this was a project, it will come with all the following: M54B30 - taken out of E46 with ~190kms which drove well and didn't smoke. All cylinders tested at 150psi. Some maintenance items have already been done: New oil filter housing gasket (and new oil filter) 2x new cooling pipes under intake manifold (plastic ones) New rocker cover gasket New oil sump gasket Comes with bits required to transplant the M54 into the E36: E46 accelerator pedal and plug Engine loom ECU Ancillaries: P/steering pump, alternator, etc Airbox + AFM Fuel filter + lines E46 Radiator New spark plugs (was going to replace after first start) E46 330i front brakes - calipers, cradles, discs and pads Replacement panels (white): Driver's door Front passenger's door Right front quarter panel Nose cone Rear bumper (slightly better than current on car) I'm wanting $4.5k for the whole lot. Car is located in Te Atatu South. I highly recommend viewing. Contact me on 021 293 9471 or direct message to arrange viewing or to request more photos (I've got a lot!). Cheers, Kris

Hey, anybody have a e24 or e28 they’d potentially look at moving on? Currently have a e36 M3 but have been craving the urge to get back into something older, Happy as if it’s more of a project, although if it’s mint I’d look at selling my M3 to purchase or potentially do some sort of swap to whom ever was interested, as with a baby fresh out I don’t currently have the funds to purchase a mint example.

There yuh go. I predicted $55k. Keen bidding at the end - more than a few thought this was worth more than $25k. Enough to suggest the prevailing opinions on this thread are proven 'well short of the mark'. Well done @Gaz you were on the money. Now, if this and it's ilk are enjoyed sparingly, brought out for outings on fine days, and kept in fine fettle (dry stored, regularly serviced); in twenty years what will they go for? There will be fewer e30s remaining to buy. Hmmm. Assuming willing buyers and that they're still sought-after, $100k (allowing for inflation) may be conservative, assuming a slowly increasing market overall with some peaks and dips over time. The 318iS hitches a ride and is ~$60k? And by the standard classic car math that a decent replica is worth half of a good 'un, it would suggest that taking care of your tribute coupe is a wise plan. Touring, Cabby, Baur all boost too - scarcity. And you can be guaranteed clean well-sped'd 4 doors ratchet up as well. Back to the 80's. The future's so bright, I gotta wear shades. Can't have one song without the other. Have some Webb Wilder!

Got it a bit dirty / bit stuck on 90 mile beach You can’t quite make out all the salt and sand all over it from the photo, but it’s got into a lot of places. In all honesty, even though it’s a FWD and not xDrive, it performed pretty well on the soft stuff. I only got stuck when I did something silly and managed to get it in-stuck pretty easily. Traction control was working pretty hard on some parts, but the electronics did their stuff and got me out the other side.

Probably for the half cage and bucket seats. No biggie to get an authority card, especially as you are planning on entering events anyways.

I've got a full set of rebuilt evo spec injectors if it'll help, i'll have to have a dig and check what they are though

Thanks mate really appreciate that. Unfortunately all the insulation on the resistors crumbled when i touch them. Might need some new shielding of some type? The cert plate states current MSNZ authority card required
  21. 1 point
Why do you need an authority card? If those injector resistors are the same as plain old m50/2 ones it should be fine still. I've had them in much worse condition and still running. Might pay to measure the resistance. I might also have some spare M3 injectors. Will pm you tomorrow if I find em

So the red Tech 2 went from $45K to $64K in the last hour? Four bidders bidding over $62K.

Just been fixing this ding. The final ding from the scissor jack impact. Looks close enough, I'm pretty fast at arches now thanks to the coupe. Just need to primer and paint.

Many of the above points are valid. But I think people with an emotional connection to an E28 number very few.

Hey Chad, I remeber seeing a Borla catback exhaust for about 3k, can't remember where though. I'm not sure if anyone makes units in NZ for the n54. However a straight pipe from the down pipes was going to cost about 1k for a shop to fab it up for me (I was going to provide own muffler and high flow cat). Ended up just leaving it with cateless downpipes and stock exhaust. Just be careful as they can get really droney and raspy.

or maybe THIS for quite a bit less. The m5 was 1 of 2 sold new in NZ. And yes, I know this is a replica --- but it is definitely one-of-a-kind.

Fitted new Lemforder Tierod's last weekend and got a fresh Alignment at RaceAlign on Monday. With Suspension now pretty sorted, decided to put in some 98, inflate the side bolsters up and give her a good, sustained spanking. Went for a blast out to the Manakau Heads Lighthouse which (after the hideous Southern Motorway traffic) was fantastic - brilliant views, no traffic and some pretty fun (if a little sketchy) roads. Car was great - really happy with it - didn't miss a beat, flat and direct, but compliant, heaps of feedback and with the 3.38 diff, plenty of power for me on these types of roads. A bit much tramlining for my liking, but a lot of that would have been the nature of the crappy roads. Only bummer was the speeding ticket and 20 demerits doing 98 in what I had assumed was a 100kph zone in Drury. Oh well, could have been worse 😜

While all that was going on, I was slowly getting the car ready for getting a LVVTA certification. Eventually, it was ready, so I booked the date. The battery was fairly old and decided to give up a few days before my cert appointment, so I had to get a replacement. I went with a slightly smaller DIN44 battery to save some weight. The certification check went well, but not perfect. The only thing I had to do was get some lock nuts for the engine mounts - a rule I had no idea about. A few days later, the recheck was done, and the modifications were certified. The car ended up receiving one of the new donut style LVVTA electronic data plates, riveted to the passenger B-pillar. The only thing left to do was get a fresh WoF and some registration, then it was finally road legal for the first time in 4 years. Last weekend, I finally got the chance to take it for decent drive. I am absolutely stoked with how nicely she handles. The poly bushes, coilovers, and purple tag rack produce a very direct and responsive steering feel. The ride is not too firm, but still stays flat in the corners. The brakes are quite effective, certainly lighter to engage than a stock E30, but the larger Audi master cylinder firms up with good feel. Though, I'm yet to push them too hard as the pads are still breaking (braking?) in. The LSD amazing - This is the first RWD car equipped with an LSD that I've owned, and...I don't think I could go back. Although, not everything is working how I want. The exhaust is the lowest point by far, and I have already managed to scrap it a few times on speed bumps. The main V-band clamp has taken a few hits, and is already damaged. So... I'm already planning to make some more changes to the exhaust to gain some much needed ground clearance. I've also got a new clutch and flywheel, as well as some shifter and gearbox bits ready to be installed at some point. And the body is going to need a bit of rust repair, and a respray before too long. The project continues...

I finally got the headlining recovered (after sitting under my bed for 3 years), so now the interior could be reassembled. All back together again. I also had to find a set of black sunvisors to match the black headlining. Very happy with the result.

TBH you would be far better off talking to Pramod about the issues than BMW Wellington. He is far more knowledgeable than any of the techs they have at BMW.

Saw a nice F11 wagon pop up and thought it might be a good modern replacement for our family wagon. Just putting this up here if anyone is looking for a nice E61 touring. Wont be going on trademe unless I decide to seriously sell it but it depends if the F11 wagon stays available long enough. 2009 530i E61 LCI M Sport Space Grey Metallic N52b30 straight 6 engine 3L NA Automatic with the newer shifter style 164,xxx kms Black leather interior with heated seats Panoramic sunroof with drainage hole issue and tailgate wiring issue all sorted also Engine oil and filter service done recently Trans fluid service done (BM Workshop receipt included) Engine mounts (left + right), trans mounts, oil pan gasket, drive belt idler pulley, belt tensioner, serpentine belt, valve cover gasket, valvetronic gasket, cam cover gasket all done. Tinted windows all round Towbar (detachable hook style) Very well optioned example being LCI has the LED taillights etc It does have some minor cosmetic marks on the outside, interior very tidy and mechanically runs well Michelin PS4 tyres on the front plenty of tread left, rears are nothing special Roofbars not included Would be happy to hear thoughts on what it would be worth. Hard to price it because its probably one of the better ones compared to the ones I see for sale but it also has done a bit more kms than most.

@Qube needs a price as per the forum rules please. Understand it is a hard one to price, but still need a price on the post. Even if it is "offers in region of".

I'd love to Alan, but after reviewing my E53 expenditure(!) since 2016, I need to stick with it and enjoy it...
