153,800 kms. Bit of basic maintenance today. Oil + filter change and new spark plugs. The spark plugs definitely needed replacing! Seems to be running very slightly smoother, but that could be a placebo - it ran really great before. Also got around to installing a factory head unit I've had lying around. I bought it off a guy from a Facebook group who had installed a Bluetooth unit in place of the tape deck (the Bluetooth plays over a blank CD). It works great - love the factory look. Before: After:

Clocked up a few km’s this week working in Upper Hutt and the Wairarapa. Gave me a chance to stretch its legs and put it through its paces on some twisty backroads. Compliant and comfortable...these sport seats are a treat.

Well I got permission and a deal was made with Alex. Should be a great runner for me.

Me? Not much. Miss M? She bought a 2013 116i. Really is a lovely little car.

WTF is there a towbar on it?

Thanks. Cars just ticked over 125,000km I think. Isn’t seeing much use as the wagons running great now. Don’t think I have any photos I haven’t already posted so might be time to go shoot some new ones.

There’s not a lot of things going for this car to my eyes, pre-LCI, non-M Sport, meh wheels. As for condition the front bumper is badly chipped and scuffed, frosted headlights, would wonder what’s under the seat covers. Fault could be anything from simple fix to major surgery. Anything sold through the “trade-in clearance centre” is unlikely to have been well maintained. Potential money-pit in my humble opinion. Pros- it’s a wagon, it’s diesel and it’s got a tow bar.

Looks like a pretty mean all rounder... drive to the track... race.... then drive home. Winner at the stop light drags too Cheers... https://carbuzz.com/news/bmw-2002-transformed-into-803-hp-monster

Brand new rear rotors and brake pads installed. Think one of the old rotor was very very well used haha.

https://www.trademe.co.nz/a/motors/cars/bmw/listing/3100060754 Seems like it could be a reasonable project for someone? Doesn't look like it's been totally neglected

Seriously having you on! the photos of mine make it look a great example, has a few unseen little dints and signs of being a 31 year old car now that I have crawled around it more. And am working my way through a few blown interior bulbs, but wow I know what you mean about Ardo’s, seriously looks mint

Sorry nah, that’s not what I meant. I can definitely see why you think I meant that though. I was talking about the silver one. Sammo mentioned that the photos are poor - I made a joke that maybe it isn’t that tidy anyway and it’s not really the photos that are poor.

Yeah, I’ve actually talked to this guy already before he listed it. He’s related to someone on here. I think I may have offended him by offering too much of a low amount. It’s a pretty tidy car though, and definitely is miles better than all the e30 on TM right now. My stupid mind is thinking that as soon as I buy that, I’ll find an e30 that I’d like better. Realising how absurd my thinking is right now.

Have you advertised it anywhere other than here? This is an enthusiast's site for sure but there are a very limited number of eyes here, especially for a specialist interest car.

Wrong fuel type Wrong number of doors Wrong decade And yet here I am hovering over that buy now 🤔

Stunning indeed. You'd have to be nuts to consider any E30 on TM currently over this gem.

Went for a spin down the road and it ticked over this, which i thought was pretty cool 😎

Montreal blue is such a good colour (when it's clean and the sun is shining). Can't wait for the manual swap on this...

To anyone that was interested, I’ve found a e24 I’d like to purchase. will take 25k for the m3 if it means I can complete the deal. 027 772 3242

Removed rear seat from the E39 to access rear shocks. Bit of a pita but no broken bits so yay!

That is a really messed up quote haha. I honestly dont think it can be a 2 hr job and $240 per bush is madness.

FB Marketplace - both these have full matching sports leather interiors and are manual. Hard to see condition of the $24k auto on TM as the photos are poor - with @E28E30 one you can see it’s immaculate and looks fantastic in red with the basket weaves.

Time for some maintenance in the engine bay. Leaking valve cover gaskets and a good attempt to sort an intermittent engine rattle that comes and goes and has been there since owning the car. Thought the timing might be slightly off but it was perfect, but did notice the main chain sprocket on the b1 intake came was off by 1 tooth compared to b2. Vanos should compensate for this easily, but it just meant that the intake cam couldn’t reach its full range of travel on advancement. Certainly didn’t feel down on power but good to correct this while it’s apart. Suspect po’s engine builder got this wrong and i did not notice way back when I refurbished the vanos units. The secondary air pump line bracket on b1 was loose due to the threads in the upper chain cover being stripped out. I think that may have caused the rattling but will have to see when it’s back on the road. 4 new cps’s to go in and a set of fresh plugs and filters. I forgot how much of a c u n t changing cps’s out on the s62. Ordered a new alternator too as the lights were flickering at idle and bearings starting to get grumbly. New belts and idler pulleys to boot also. Good to see after nearly 6 years of ownership it’s still very clean inside and the chain guides are mint.

I caught up on e46 maintenance yesterday. Well, at least Auto 38 in Newtown, Wellington caught up on my behalf! It had been seven or eight years since the last cooling system refresh - about 80k kms. Last time it was Hepu water pump, hoses, sensors, reservoir, thermostat, cap, thermostat clip. There had been some slow leaks - coolant loss over about 3 months bringing up the level light, and about 150ml of deionised water to top up. Now was the time to sort it. This time it was *all the hoses* - not just the top and bottom ones, every hose, including the hard plastic one that bolts to the block, and the one(s) intake manifold. New thermostat (Borg Warner), new water pump (Graf this time - metal impeller again), reservoir, support bracket, cap, sensors, auto trans thermostat, pulleys, belts. And of course BMW coolant with deionised water. Replaced fan shroud too, Jon had a spare one that wasn't cracked. Jon showed me the state of the hoses, many of them had turned hard like thermo-setting plastic. There was a little play in the Hepu waterpump bearing. Doesn't feel like much, but as Jon pointed out - there's a fan on the end of it! My impression on the drive was that the car feels a little smoother. Happy days. Great service from Jon and Keren at Auto 38! If you're in the Wellington region, this is the place to go.

My best pick would easily be the newer f20 116i. fantastic economy and reliability (for a bmw). no inherent issues 😂

Today I clay bar'd and applied chemical brothers 'jet seal' to the whole car, not sure how good this product is but I got it for the E39's headlights that i no longer have and it was pretty expensive so figured might as well use it. I feel like this is the cleanest this car will ever be so went and shot a few photos to document it.

152,186 kms. Upon returning to Wellington she was due for a WOF. Took her to VTNZ and she passed with a clean sheet. Then, into Auto 38 for new belts and all new pulleys as they were all pretty old anyway. The thermostat housing also had a slow leak, so that too was replaced. Going back in this week for new front wheel bearings. Took it to the Brit and Euro Car Show last weekend. A really cool day with an awesome selection of cars. Will definitely be attending again. [On the way to the show I found myself next to a souped-up classic Mini with a roll cage and violently loud exhaust at a red light. It brought me great joy to put it in my rear view mirror ;)]

151,500 kms. After over 5,000 kms and a couple months, the car was due for a wash. To thank it for all its hard work, I spent a few days detailing it. Pretty happy with how it came out, considering I'm a novice detailer and used just my hands. Before: After: For this I used mostly Autoglym products: shampoo, clay bar, polish, ceramic coating. And plenty of elbow grease and man hours. A Karcher carpet cleaner for the carpets, and some leather cleaner and conditioner on the seats and steering wheel. At the same time I refreshed the cabin and air filters, and boot struts. I had no idea changing a cabin filter could be so difficult. For anyone who hasn't done one of these on an E36, the cabin filter lives under the steering wheel, and requires breaking in two locations just to fit it in place. The instructions I followed said this was a 15 minute job - I lost count once it got to an hour.
