I do like the look of the verts, but I'm set on a 2 door (hard top) - plus I'm bald so, harder to look cool in vert hahaha

You know Jon is good when it’s 250k each way to get the car serviced!

Have we seen a stock E46 M3 at this price point in NZ before? https://www.trademe.co.nz/a/motors/cars/bmw/listing/3336925537?bof=lGyGOBaK $79,000 and 86,000km - assuming it is immaculate. 2002 Import though, and not sure Topaz is a particularly sought after colour? (loads of lowly Ci's in Topaz)

Not at all uncommon (and not just with E30s). "Just needs a couple of little things..." So why not do them?

If ever there was a poster child for reliability, a TVR with a S85 😂

Saw this, nice honest stock example. I like topaz but yeah typically not sought after. The spec is meh, sunroof, prefacelift, headlight washers etc. The problem with stock M3s like this is that none of the major issues will have been addressed. Nice car but 80k is getting into 997 C2S money...

I use Gough, they have a branch just around the road from work but all the testing is done in Christchurch I believe, you buy the kit from them and drop it back to them, they send it to the lab and email the results.

Regular changes and not following the BMW super long intervals is more important than what brand 10W60 to use. Half the problem with modern car engines are due to the long intervals.

Got all the interior back in. First time in 6 months it’s all been back together. Went for a blast to raglan today. Great weather and the car performs great on the open road. Good times.

The official requirements are here: https://www.lvvta.org.nz/documents/infosheets/LVVTA_Info_07-2016_Drive-shaft_Safety-loop_Requirements.pdf Basically, if you've only done a manual swap, and used factory parts for it, you shouldn't require driveshaft hoops. "Interchangeable drive-shafts: In the case of a vehicle which has had a bolt-in OEM (original equipment manufacturer) model variant engine or transmission conversion, or a bolt-in OEM model variant turbocharger/supercharger addition, a driveshaft safety-loop is not required provided that documented proof is provided by the vehicle manufacturer or their agent, verifying that all drive-shaft components are identical between the two vehicles, and that the drive-shaft remains unmodified."

Finished off the rear suspension - Trialing a set of TRW rear shocks which are suppose to be Msport equivalents (Sachs don't make any now days). RTABS + limiters - old bushings weren't as bad as i expected but are '02 labeled so probably the originals. Front struts done - old ones were completely gone as expected, the weight of a 19mm 1\2" impact socket would compress the piston to near bottom. I only noticed one of the strut towers was mushroomed upon strut removal, likely caused by worn struts and mounts combined with pot holes. Have hammered it flat and will be putting in some reinforcement plates before re-installing.

I'm not sure I agree.. IMO price has nothing to do with it being an enthusiasts vehicle. Where they still a enthusiasts vehicle when they were $500 and being cut up and thrashed? Or were they cars for Bogans then? I look at porsche as the ultimate enthusiasts vehicle, not that I've ever driven one but will never be able to afford one but doesn't stop it being a vehicle for enthusiasts

hahaha still doesn't give you the enjoyment that driving an e30 does. I'll be honest, there is just something about these old boxes that does it for me. I would sell every car in my fleet just to keep my e30. the e60, the e23, the e28 and the e46 can all go hahha

Ha! Maybe. It had a full tank, so seemed a bit random. One of those weird things, took a different way home for my second lockdown coffee and stumbled across it. Neighbour is stoked, that’s the main thing. And yeah, having to stress about your stuff sucks.

Its like the universe is trying to talk me out of an E30 and into an E24: https://www.trademe.co.nz/a/motors/cars/bmw/listing/3328522439?bof=O1LBIznl https://www.trademe.co.nz/a/motors/cars/bmw/listing/3331187718?bof=WAO790Nu Both oldies though (1979 / E12 based) but that second one is amazingly clean - wonder what the reserve is 🤔 A bit big and old for me, but I really love the look!
