First update after a week or so of ownership and a few 100kms... First few goodies arrived - A Condor 'Shorty' Shift knob and my new Euro Plates - went with silver 'wings' and really happy with the look at the front, although against the black rear plate frame the lack of contrast on certain angles just looks a bit white - we will see - looks better IRL than in the pictures - its just a lighter silver than I had hoped. Took her out this morning for a proper country drive out Helensville / Makarau way - it was drizzling and the suspension is tired and tires old so I didn't go nuts but had loads of fun. Observations: LOVE this exhaust / engine note - Loud raspy wail above 4K / great undulating burble at idle, blipping downshifts sounds fantastic and pops on upshifts and deceleration if you provoke it - so good. Unknown short shifter is nice, got a new shifter cup on way but no need to fiddle here Love the feedback through the wheel and happy with the slower rack (for now at least?) coming from a purple tag E46 100% need to do a suspension refresh - ride is quite hard and bouncy - happy with how flat it is through bends however, so will keep the sways and just change the bushes, maybe add a strut brace given the age More civilised than I expected on the motorway, aside from aforementioned bouncy ride - presumably due to dampers being past it Fixed a bad rattle in drivers door (was worn door hinge pads - a bit of electrical tape and it feels like a bank vault now) - flappy glove box is only other rattle of note now - not bad for such high kms Will also get drivers seat re-foamed when I get it the interior reupholstered and change the seat shocks - too much movement. Stupid easy to get the rear to step out on greasy roads - need a driver upgrade now - almost made a fool of myself in an intersection giving a touch of throttle mid corner - need to learn how an LSD feels? Will leave the old Potenza's on through summer and take it easy in wet - they don't seem bad otherwise, but will leave them for now as need to decide if I'm going to go to 16" or not after I do the suspension. Stoked with my decision even though the car needs plenty of improvement - feels somewhere between an NA MX5 and the E46 which is exactly what I had hoped.

Perhaps if you bought a vacuum cleaner on pick up, then vacuumed underneath it, it would be considered complete.

If I was after a boring car, this one would be real nice. Great color, interior and B58. If only it was a 540i https://www.trademe.co.nz/3381569364

Car is looking great, but for me is let down by the knockoff faded euro plates. Looking forward the progress updates.

You'll need the little arm that that connects to the headlight leveling sensor too - M3 unit (couple of bucks)

Yeah the extra camber moves the top of the wheel inwards (as well as making the front end way more pointy). My ACS's (ET43 19x8.5) used to rub over bumps on the front gaurds with 235s, 225s didnt rub. LCAs solved it and can run 235 all around. Im on ET38 18x8.5 235/35 (so 1mm difference to Qube) and no rub with M3 LCAs (and mines a few mm lower)

They're longer so they push the front hubs out, best combined with the camber pin mod which pushes the top of the shock in. Yes, more camber.

From the listing it does look like there has been quite a bit more work to change the other bits over to the iS spec, but yeah, asking genuine money for a non- genuine car...

He is advertising it as a 318is. That’s false advertising. No different to someone putting M3 badges on their car and advertising it as one. edit: got changed after I asked the question.

What are these worth in 4.5-5.0/5.0 condition??
  18. 1 point
Better hope they didnt sweep any rust into the bin. That'll be $$$ off the price if they did.

Probably worth more than anything BMW made in estoril blue now anyway 😛

The photos are stunning! If I had throwaway money, this would be the ultimate resto project. Always so sad that an iconic car gets to this stage. Cue sad Porsche face I do find it funny that the listing says that “It’s a very complete car”. I think when you step in a car and your foot goes through it, “complete” isn’t the right word.

Yeah i'm not sure that's fixable... I think there's more air than chassis left and what's left would dissolve in a cup of tea like a super wine if you tried to clean it.

While the "landcrab" may have been widely despised for its unconventional (for the time) features by those who never drove one, it actually handled better than pretty much anything else on NZ roads back in the day. Thanks to its Hydralastic suspension, once it got up to cruising speed (and that did take a while) it stuck to the road, cornered well and handled rough surfaces in a manner similar to the Hydropneumatic suspension on the Citroen CX. Unfortunately, extrapolating the virtues of "a wheel in each corner", "float on fluid" and FWD from the Mini to the 1100, 1300, 1800 and beyond, proved to be less successful as the cars became larger. But they are still a reminder that Britain once was a leader in automotive technology Cheers...

You have an optimistic view of Bitcoin and that's fine. It was likely invented with good intentions, but the reality is somewhat different. What we currently have in an imaginary currency powered entirely by greed that is become a speculative investment for high rollers. Sort of like horse racing but without the horses I fully support a money exchange system that bypasses the middlemen and their fees. However, I am very uncomfortable with a non-regulated tech heavy system that is beyond the comprehension of the vast majority of people who could benefit from such a system. There is a quaint old-fashioned idea that technology should serve the needs of the people and improve the lives of everyone. Unfortunately, in recent times this concept has become perverted and technology has gained the upper hand. Now people serve the needs of technology and the products that we are told that we need are simply the result of the latest tech developments. If a person does not have a roof over their head or food on their table they do not need an EV, no matter what big tech might think. Cheers...
