Finally got around to replacing the ugly blue-lit Sony head unit for the factory one in the m3. Had to track down another factory stereo plug first since it was removed when the previous owner had them swapped. also added a Bluetooth receiver that plugs into the CD stacker input, so brings it into the modern age while still looking factory. Took a while to track one down as most are for the CD43 or newer. was from maakbaas.com if anyone’s interested

Looks like it is probably a gorgeous car let down by below average photos! If you want 42k for your 850i spend a couple of minutes with a decent camera / phone in some decent light and get some decent photos, please!

Worked through my entire vocabulary of swear words while removing the thermostat from the M5! Don't think I can face trying to install the new one on the same day!!!

Stroking doesn't really affect idle in any meaningful way. M20's don't get lumpy at idle until at least a 280+ degree cam setup, speaking from experience with my Alpina 272 degree cam and a friends Hartge 280 degree cam in his 2.6. I've attached a decade old potato quality video of my Alpina 2.7 at idle - it's rock solid. You can't really "know" that a stroker has been well executed unless you've first hand knowledge of the build / or can be provided evidence of what was used, there's simply too many ways to skin the cat when stroking an M20. 2.7 is obviously the simplest with either the crank from the eta or the forged crank from the M21 diesel. 2.8 and above uses an M5x series crank but then you've got to have a spacer machined up for the nose (simple enough) but anything larger than 2.8 you're going to have to clearance the gallery for the crank counter weights to spin freely inside the block. The other route to 2.8+ litres is boring the block, but there isn't a heap of meat between the cylinders to start with, as a 2.5 M20 is oversquare to start with with a ratio of 1.12. Some of the larger cranks really throw this ratio out the window, and there's a tonne of people over the years who have been disappointed with their 3.0L M20's. Not nearly enough attention is paid to head flow, as there's no point in going larger displacement if you're not going to address the main M20 weak point which is the combustion chamber shape and how little the ports (particularly the exhaust) in the head flow. For example, at 10" of test pressure the Alpina head flows some 10cfm more than stock at 0.40" valve lift, and almost 20cfm at 0.60" Anyway, could go on for hours, might post some ramblings in the performance section. yt1s.com - E30 325iS Evo 1 at idle_360p.mp4

Or every person trying to sell their classic Bimmer is using the same BS to try and make their car sound more important. No matter whose car it was it would still need to have number plates on it to be driven.

Nice example. I would rather this over something new before the price is taken into account. But whats the go with the head of BMW of this era. Bloke must have had the largest garage. It seems every tidy model offered for sale was his car when it was new.

Great colour for one of these - missing the nice sports seats with extendable leg bolsters though.. Sreten from M539 Restorations makes these look straightforward to look after 😂

Personally, I would highly doubt this given he is an aircraft engineer... IMO

Surprised R129's have not really taken off yet, such a beautiful design with the hardtop (which most came with?) and as quintessentially 80s as a quad headlight BMW. Less of a drivers car I guess - are they reliable? surely these where in the glory days for MB?

Missed out on a facelift SL500 many years ago for just over 11k. Last one i saw wanted 40k but very tidy. No desire to own another E30 seems to be common with those ive talked to that owned and sold before the market went crazy.

Sorted the low rpm lack of boost issue, new pressure converter and some new vacuum hoses, an hours work and hey presto! Also found the bracket that holds the vacuum canister was broken so it was just rattling around between the chassis rail and engine mount, so stuck it back together withe some extra high temperature hot glue

$6000 firm Selling my wifes car as i have bought her a cx9 and my driveway doesn't accomodate 3 cars very well. Will be sold with fresh VTNZ wof, atleast 4 months rego and fresh oil and filter. One very well looked after bmw x3, washed with two bucket method weekly, waxed every 2-3 months as well as 303 rubber protectant. Car has done almost all long distance runs from Manurewa to far west auckland and back 5 days a week for last 5 years. I was a detailer in a past life and the paint on this for its year is immaculate. We have owned since 2015 and 48,000km and have done the following maintenance - castrol 5w30 every 8-10,000km - drivers door lock mechanism replaced at 150k power steering fluid reservoir drained and replaced every oil change 2x transfer case fluid services with correct bmw fluid Discs and pads x2 with fluid coolant at 100km front lower control arms at 160km transfer case actuator at 135km spark plugs at 50k and 120k air filter x 3 Hankook ventus tires most recently at about 152km new front kidneys to be installed before sale battery around 110km Im sure there is more I have forgotten. The bad - indicator stalk stuck on recently and after i pursuaded it it to undo it no longer turns of when turning the steering wheel, you have to flick it off. Google says indicator stalk can be replaced by itself. - Drivers power mirror has ceased to fold in and out - possible valve cover gasket leak has started, i keep the engine bay clean and see a bit of oil around valve covers. asking $6,000 ono located in Hill Park Manurewa pm for phone number.

Hi all, thought I’d make an account after seeing a bit of talk about my M3 (RASPY). Not usually the type to join forums as I never have the time to be as active as I should but here goes nothing... 😆 just moved to a new phone so don’t have many detailed pics of my car(s) but rest assured I’ll upload some on the next sunny day.

In 1991 a 5 litre V8 HSV only managed 180kw, so not too shabby for the day!

There's a guy in the Manawatu with an Lhd & Rhd e30 M3's kept in his barn. He's getting on a bit now though and we haven't seen them being driven about much lately. If you are serious, PM me your contact details, I could pop a note in his letter-box. ( Don't climb the gate if you visit though, there are usually 1-3 dogs running loose on the property.) Yeah, also I know a land-agent who can direct you to a house with a ex-Japanese 'suicide submarine' in the basement and/or a property with lots of sheds with ex US Army Willys Jeeps and piles of 'new/unused' spares stacked away...

Got the required imperial hardware needed to get the dry sump pump apart today ... all looks to be in good order. The new housing to switch to a left side mount is almost on the way from the states along with a new seal / bearing kit. Pretty impressed with the engineering and techniques used to make the pump !! Created the required clearance for the shifter relocation ... just needs a couple small tweaks and some epoxy primer which can wait until the engine is removed. That shaft will need to be cut down some what

That's because the rose-tinted glasses are off. They've been there, done that, and won't pay the premium prices for something which is likely to cost more once bought. E30s are very poopular, as prices show, but most seem to be being bought by first-timers. Generally very reliable. Not necessarily the 'glory days' - that was perhaps 10 years earlier - but they're good cars. The R129 was made for over 10 years so there's lots of choice. Most of the engines are pretty bullet-proof provided they're maintained correctly. The M104.991 in the SL320 does suffer from a biodegradable wiring harness in the engine bay, but sort that and they'll run for a million miles.

Ahhh.... I see. Movie and TV series references are liable to different interpretations if the reader has not seen or followed the original from which the quote is drawn. No problem. I prefer quotes from noteworthy individuals who have put their words of wisdom down in writing. Here is one that caught my eye a few days ago... "Our inventions are wont to be pretty toys, which distract our attention from serious things. They are but improved means to an unimproved end." Henry David Thoreau (1817-1862) This is as true today as it was on the day it was written. The world needs more clear thinkers like Thoreau, but what we get is a bunch of leaders whose mantra is clearly drawn from the words of W C Fields... If you can't dazzle them with brilliance, baffle them with bullshit !!! Cheers...

E30s selling at $15k+ are now double the price of a slightly newer, similar condition, Mercedes SL320. One of these cars was $270000, new.

LMAO. Theres always one hey. 'certifiably racist' - is that a new catch phrase those who are offended on behalf of others use now? You'll find similar stereotypes apply to other countries as well where a lot of consumers have had bad runs with their products or the quality has been sub par. Australia, England, France, USA etc.

Man it's been decades since I last saw these. Every garage/service station in the 70's had a bunch of them. My mate had some in his shed we used to use (in the 80's/early 90's). As you say, weighed a ton, need manhandling into place, but the benefit of the slow raise/lower is the precision. Wonder why these fell from grace?

The freight side from 'Straya should be relatively straightforward. If the car is rust-free, has no accident damage, and is well-maintained... they'll probably find something else! People seem to get flood damaged or hail write-offs from 'Straya complied here regularly, so why not try it with an honest car. If you can get it on the road here and make $10k in the process to cover your risk/make it worthwhile, why wouldn't you? You might want to keep it though.

You get what you pay for. Also assessing the tool is fit for the job and realizing using some tools when used no matter there origin comes with some risk. Hydraulic presses, grinders, axle stands, jacks etc to name a few all have a lot of forces involved when being used so should be treated accordingly with safety in mind.

I just want to thank promo for his fast turnaround of my ECU tune. I posted it to him on Monday, he tuned it on Tuesday and I received it back at lunchtime today. The car feels great with the remap, well impressed - pulls like a train. I do love the shove from these 330d's!

Mounted up the Serial Nine CD999 shifter relocation kit and its going to work out pretty good ... just need to en-biggen the hole slightly for the main boss to stick through. This kit has an adapter for the shifter shaft so you can position it fore or aft of the pin shown in the image.

I drove it 😁 I was at the same M Town event as the reporter. Done two track days in my own F82 M4 now so I think I have a decent comparison. Couldn't push as hard as I've done in my own M4 in the track, instructor was in the lead car and restricted the pace. I did get to toss it around a bit and power out the corners just enough to get the back end out a little. Handling dynamics felt just as sharp and responsive as the F82. The auto shifts fast but not as instant as the DCT, there's no kick even in the most aggressive setting. I'd say a negligible performance difference but I'd like the DCT just for the fun factor and character it gives the car... not everyone will care for it. The handling hasn't suffered at all from the extra weight and size, I'm seriously impressed with how they managed that. Carbon seats are very comfy and hold you very well on the track, even with regular seat belts. Just need to clamber a bit to get out. Oh and if you're in the back seat of the M3 when the pro driver does the hotlap and drifts it, you'll wish you were in a bucket seat because you get tossed around lol. I really would have loved to take it around the track all day, it was so fun. I drove the M8 and M5 too... amazing cars but so isolated and detached feeling that they're not nearly as fun on a track. The M3/4 is NOTHING like them. Am I going to rush out any buy one? Well... no, the F82 is still heaps of fun
