Sorry to bring up the actual cars we are talking about, namely the F82 M4 and the F80 M3. This time with numbers... Total NZ New sales from launch (both launched at the same time, so apples with apples...) F80 M3 Sedan - 118 cars F82 M4 Coupe - 71 cars. May well be an anomally for NZ, I will see if I can find other market / worldwide production sales and production figures but as we live in NZ and are talking about the NZ market I would say these are the pertinent numbers. Your witness m'lud.

I'll bid $10 going by the information and the photos you've supplied... I hope I'm not the leading bid though

So over the last month or two, i have been going over the car and "fixing" the small detail stuff that needs doing. Things like some minor dings in the body work, re doing some welds, and started the repair work on the jack points that were quite damaged by rust as well as having the donor engine looked over and all looks good for engine transplant over Christmas. Not many photos yet, as its not very interesting. Getting the car ready for the engine swap will be a good mile stone and then look at paint early next year, but will hold off on spaying the deck tray until the below has been addressed. A certifier has been out and was pretty hard case. He refused to acknowledge anything the previous certifier had inspected and requested i open the tray panels up for investigation. I have been in touch with the LVVTA and another certifier to work around this, so will see how that goes. Understandably he is putting his name on the build as a sign off, but its a good case of how different every inspector is. LVVTA suggested i engage another certifier as the regulations are around safety ad impact to the driver / passenger cabin and since i have not made any adjustments or modifications to the front cabin, that should be taken into consideration etc etc - Not really sure how that all pans out In other news, I have just purchased the below - yes, its the same plate as the one in Aussie, but i dont care and it suits the car quite well. I did put a space between the M and the U ?

agree - they never actually fail! Though whenever I've replaced one (I did a couple of Bosch GT40's back in the late 80's/early 90's on japanese cars, and more recently on my e30 325i, volvo etc), it always seems a little smoother in the range. Thanks! And, oh, since you mention it, there's more where that came from. ? I've been putting together the plan for a "316 iS". Working on the reliability and safety, then handling and stopping, there's lots of parts prep. Some unplanned health issues have slowed me down over the last 5 weeks. Preparing for suspension. Koni Yellows on their way from ebay. Going to match with H&R Sportsprings 29663-1 (-35 + -35mm for 4cyl iS). I've always wanted to do Koni Yellows on one of my cars, and these came up at a reasonable price (used). I remember what @3pedals said last year on my e60 thread, an excellent description here, decided this is the time to have a crack with Koni Yellow. The Eibachs sound a little soft, so H&R it is. I'm more concerned about handling than "lows". New sump gasket ready to go in. Engine and Gearbox mounts. Diff gasket and bushing. Shifter bushings, and maybe a short-shifter. New fluids for the diff and gearbox. Rear: Meyle Subframe Mounts, Lemforder Trailing Arm Bushing Set, Meyle HD Shock Mounts. Koni 80-2522 (general e30 spec, not absolutely perfect for the 318iS, though possibly rebuild as 80-2641 in future if necessary?) Considering conversion to rear disks, a-la 318iS. Front: Sachs strut mounts, BMW Bump Stops, Koni 8641-1210 Sport. new ARB bushes, Meyle HD ARB end links, new wheel bearings. Need to figure out if I have 51mm housings, or need to get them to build with the konis and new parts. LCA and bushes, rack ends seem okay for the mo, so they can wait. I've bought 14" baskets, getting some new rubber. Need to get the rims down from Napier... anyone coming down soon? Some time in the new year it should all start to come together. There are other maintenance items to take care of too. In summary: it's not to be a race car, just a healthy street car that's fun to drive, reliable, teach my kids to drive in, and I may have a go at the Surgery Sprint Series with it next year. I'm not expecting to be particularly competitve, as I'd be a total track novice and it's just a 1.6l M40. But hey, participation and fun, I think I'll have the ingredients for low-budget entry-level track time. PS: I think an M42 conversion will be on the cards, just not until everything else is sorted.

@Young Thrash Driver is it time to start Bridgestone vs Beaurepaires vs Hyperdrive again?

Yeah, the PS4S is the successor to the Pilot Super Sport; a more performance orientated version than the PS4

Shot - hey thanks for your diagnosis with the symptoms i described - i was pretty sure it was a vacuum leak, but doubtful i was going to find anything on second look. Maybe it just split open properly between the last time i looked

I can't help with Wellington or Christchurch recommendations sorry but there's are few clued-in people here from both regions that should be able to help. I think that pricing is pretty fair although that VANOS quote can't include a replacement hub (https://store.vacmotorsports.com/s54-vanos-hub-upgrade-p3771.aspx) because they're pretty expensive and it's a fatal flaw in the system that, to the best of my knowledge, was never addressed by BMW. I think you can get less expensive options than VAC (who tend to be in the upper price range for most things but quality is second-to-none). Subframe quote is reasonable if no damage has already been done (otherwise it will cost more for labour). I would NOT recommend poly rear subframe or transmission bushes for a daily, if the repair is done properly (ideally structural foam and welded reinforcements) then standard rubber bushes will be fine and will provide a much more compliant ride. Airbag is a compulsory recall so shouldn't cost you anything, bottom end bearings is NOT a recall (in NZ at least) and won't be fixed out-of-warranty for free by BMW. If the car has always been run with 10w60 then a bottom-end failure is a much lower risk.

Also check the vacuum lines and blanking cap on the ports at the rear of the manifold as they crap out too, see picture.

It's good to see someone doing there job properly as per the standard

BTW the car looks great with the repaint, but I am biased as I think E36 Coupes are one of the best looking BMW's.

If a vehicle comes with bump stops then it needs bump stops for the WOF. They can also fail you on brake rotors if they suspect they are undersized, it is then up to you to prove otherwise

Sounds like a vacation leak to me too. Home made smoke machine is some of the best money I've spent. Disa valve o-ring is another common leak area

that blue one was indeed sold for 28k or less by the previous owner with the plate "SHANE3" a few months ago http://bimmersport.co.nz/topic/60418-heaps-of-e46-m3s-on-tm/ I *think* I know the owner who owned it before "shane" because he bought my old E39 and came to view it in a topaz blue manual m3 with the colour stitched interior. Anyway, the guy who is selling it now from WLGT is just trying to make a quick buck and to be honest it might even sell at over $30k to another delusional buyer. Its definitely not worth that for all the reasons pointed out above.
  26. 1 point
Well, I can't tell you what to do but I don't believe it's worth $32k without the necessary fixes (see Tom's for $30k with the fixes). I'd also question how it went from $28k to $32k in 3 months and why somebody would want to flip an apparent unicorn (blue E46 M3 manual) in that timeframe? A desperate buyer makes for a happy seller, keep that in mind! I'd challenge his offer of $32k armed with the knowledge that you'll need to spend literally thousands more, if they won't budge then I'd walk away. The only E46's that are truly going up in value are the ones that have been fixed and the owners of ones that haven't been fixed know this all too well and are trying to cash in on a rising market. Look at the one recently purchased by a member here... looked great and now needs multiple thousands put into it to fix the subframe less than a month after purchase...

Thought I’d log back in after 8 years and see what’s happening and if any Chch members I knew pre quake are still active members. I remember some fun drive days out to Godley Head and to Timaru and meet ups at Pak n Save Moorhouse other places. Had a ‘99 E39 540i (in Diamant Schwarz) when an active member. Sold that when it started costing too much to keep on the road. Went back to a 2010 Outback to lug around kids sports stuff. That’s over now! Now have a NZ new 2011 E70 X5 40d Motorsport LCI (read facelift) in Alpinweiss as my company car. That’s the twin turbo version of the in-line 6 cylinder diesel that puts out 302 bhp compared to the 30d that produces 240 bhp. Love the smooth ride and the power. Fuel economy is 10.5 l/100 (27mpg), a lot better than the 540! Never owned a diesel before so it was hard getting used to the noise. Previous owner was my business partner who upgraded to the F15 X5M 50d. Will replace profile pic when clean and the sun is out. Mike

Not quite. Need them for the camber/toe adjusters I'm getting for my E28 (because I like a good alignment as much as the next guy). https://store.garagistic.com/Complete-camber-toe-correction-kit

Yep, good thing was there was no rips or tears or saggy bits .... just discolouration from being closed up in the dark, back-of-his-garage for so long.

Hi a number of you may have seen this car for sale a couple of months back. It's been pretty much out of sight for some years but is known to a few people and once again is back on the road with me as its third owner. #328 was NZ new and has just clocked up 116k km. If I have this right in 1991-ish the ACS wheels and body kit were fitted and the engine was given a healthy dose of Dinan "love and attention" upping its performance ... Mileage at that time was approx 80k km. There is no evidence of repair or rust, it's very original and except for the OBC everything works. As I understand it the same guys (guru's) have serviced and looked after it all their lives, which I find particularly cool. That said it's needed a little recommissioning , new tires have transformed it, leather rejuvenation has made it look like new inside along with a few bits and pieces. The biggest ticket item being a NOS AC radiator. Next week it's booked in to spend sometime with a couple of the well known BMW guru's being dyno''d. I'll let you know how it goes. Regards Julian

I like it and tbh, unless you're hoping for a profit it probably doesn't matter if it's fake or not. It looks cool. I'd be more interested in the armour to be honest, how thick is the glass? Because there's not point in putting armour on a car without reinforcing the glass also.

Strange that they went to the effort of putting arguably the wrong offset Apex wheels on that blue one, they could easily have gotten ones that were a better fit.
