That's the symptom for a faulty lockup clutch in the torque converter. Usually occurs at around 2,000rpm with light throttle load

Massive day this past Saturday, helps to have a good mate with eletrical engineering skills, as we set about installing paddle shift and MFW intothe E39. It was a Solid 6 hour day day of trim removal and reinstall, wiring, creating new paddle shift looms, ill fitting airbag, straightneding brackets andthen good fitting airbags. For the paddles shift a new loom was created running from the slock spring to the shifter area to intersect without cutting the steptronic wiring in the shifter area. this allows paddlesot be used once the gear stick is moved into sport mode. Genuine OEM wiring, connectors and clips were used for that factory look, fit and finish and to ensure all bits were new and sure to work. The MFW (cruise and stereo control) was a bit more indepth with Factory installation guides and wiring used, splicing intothe LCM and running 1 wire to the DME, The airbag bracket was bent, fomr previous air bag removal at wreckers or by former owner?? so that needed removing and straightening up, now fits perfectly. after all ofthis and a good vacuum, I now have OEM cruise control, stereo control and sport mode paddle shift in my 2001 530i. now i need an alignment, also due to new tires last week and i'll be good to go oh except fo rthe freshly failed door lock actuator - doh!

Very rare. Very used average condition - please see photos the alcantara bits are not too bad but the vinyl parts will need repair. Was in a caged car hence some cage marks in the rear door cards $350

Having seen what the PPI on my Mini came back with, I wouldn't put much faith in a dealer done PPI either. Not worth the few cents of paper its printed on.

PPI for sure, from a well qualified specialist in these type of cars, not the rubbish AA type of inspection. Maybe some of the Wellington peeps can recommend someone?

Make sure you talk with the seller for a good extended testdrive. A 5 min spin around the block just aint gonna cut it. Get it up to operating temp, drive it how you would like to and maybe a bit more for safe measure and see how it holds up after 30 mins or more. Check under the car and open the bonnet for any leaks, smokes, noises. make sure there is no hiccups or hesitation, if you arent getting a PPI done, go with gut feeling - does it FEEL like a good car that drives as it should or is something a bit off? If it FEELS good and you LIKE the car, then maybe - maybe get a PPI - either you spend the money knowing its a good car and checks out, or its a lemon and you dodge a bullet/bomb. OR if it has minor issues you use that to negotiate the price down to make it less risky/more worthwhile. edit: its probably "cheap" because its a standard non msport spec, less desirable, but has all these tunes and mods to make it go fast. If it has been looked after with good service history and preventative maintenance, you might get a good "drivers" car that may not look the best but still performs well which may be what you want.

If you are into a bit of brrrrrrmmmm pssst, brrrrrm psst from your car then this could well give you a lot smile for your dollar. If the mods listed all check out and have been done well then it should be a fun rocket ship. For that price it could well leave you a few bucks in your budget to make a few changes to suit your style, trims, rims, etc. It could also be a ticking time bomb that goes boom on the first trip and turns into a complete money pit. Registers quite high on the risk v reward scale.

Have a look, check out the maintenance receipts (make sure they're for the same car), take it for a good thrash over Haywards and back... and if it drives and sounds ok get a PPI and if that goes well and your loins are fizzing then buy it. And ask them why they spent "Thousands of dollars" on a standard spec 335i?... and whether any of it went on the suspension. If it smells bad for any reason run - and if it doesn't, perhaps it's a fun bargain depending what you want to do with it and your own expectations and risk profile (ie: Kyu's flameproof suit). If it all checks out to your satisfaction and your loins are fizzing then buy it.

So here's a twist. Located the exact problem over the weekend with the help of my Mrs. I sent myself off in the wrong direction just by chance. If the Coil pack and Valvetronic motor had not been playing up at the same time I would have found this issue straight away. But it took a fresh pair of eyes and some testing to narrow it down. The issue is not a misfire. It feels just like one though. And with the loss of a coil pack at the same time it is what I focused on. The issue is likely the Torque Converter. It's low RPM shudder feels just like a misfire. But changing the car to sport mode virtually eliminates it. And manual gear selection it is gone. Which is odd behavior for a misfire. You can read all about it here. https://www.bimmerfest.com/forums/showthread.php?t=675181#/topics/675181?page=5 Many suggest the same things we all thought. Plugs, Coils, Valvetronic motor. His symptoms are identical to mine. So I ran the info on the box. Fluid quality is at 23%. No idea what that means but it can't be that great. I have ordered a new filter and oil kit for it from FCP. And may end up chucking some Dr Tranny in too.

Used Karbonius CSL carbon door panel inserts in 1x1 carbon weave. I can honestly say these are as good if not better than the genuine article. Perfect fitment and weave pattern and stronger construction than the real thing. Made of Prepreg carbon vacuum packed and autoclave cured. Very strong. ***BARE CARBON DOOR INSERT PANELS ONLY *** ****NO door handles or door cards included**** NO mounting hardware included*** - ALL YOU GET ARE THE CARBON PANEL INSERTS WITHOUT THE GENUINE CSL DOOR HANDLES SEEN IN THE PHOTOS**** The weave on these are so good that if you placed a genuine CSL door panel next to it you would struggle to tell them apart - see last photo illustrating this. These are not off the shelf items and are made to order only from karbonius. Very rare. Genuine CSL door panels are $8000 EACH!! So it?s $32,000 just for the door panels - And they are basically NO LONGER AVAILABLE. $3000 firm. Compared to the genuine csl panel (front bare panel pictured below is a really old genuine csl carbon door panel - has slight yellowing already) as you can see the Karbonius (the rear panel - top one) is a perfect match

Genuine M3 CSL rear seat fold down centre bits - both parts. Very rare and over $4000 EACH piece to purchase new. So that’s $8000!!!! These are used and have a lot of fine scratches but when installed in the car the matte black coating makes it not that noticeable. Surplus spares that I don’t need. $2500 bargain!!! matches the standard E46 motorsport alcantara and laser fabric so. These are very very light compared to the stock item as the main seat frames are actually made of carbon fibre.

At these prices I would be buying a B5 Audi RS4. Possibly not as desirable but equally rare and special.

Thanks for your warm welcome @Olaf & @TermiPeteNZ. I’ve got her booked in for a service on Monday at Continental BMW. Any pointers on what I should be on the look out for? I’ve seen some posts on a) valve stem seals and b) something about coolant.

Just occurred to me how the CSI front bumper transforms the look of the 8 series. For the money and image of the car they all should have had that more substantial front bumper as standard.
