Thought that was just typical Toyota build quality?

Lack of attention to detail really. The "good enough" attitude that lingers across a lot of trades.

f**k that's shocking. Insurance policy usually have a lifetime repair guarantee, it has to be up to scratch by contract. My first port of call would be to talk to owner face to face and show him the shoddy work. Give him a chance to make it right. Failing co-operation I would be notifying my insurance provider and have their independent assessor view how sh*t their work is, ie prevent payment till done properly or elsewhere. That's a crock of sh*t Glenn, if you're not going to do the job well don't do it at all. Having met Mike a couple of times and knowing his work ethic i can say with certainty that he didn't request a half ass job. When accepting a request of work to be done it is expected that the job will be done, not half done, as his car is... If the final repair isn't up to standards take em to small claims.

Am I insane for liking those?

Honestly I wouldn't even call that a half arsed job. Thats terrible now matter which way you look at it. Hope you can get this resolved.

I have taken cars back repeatedly to panelbeaters after insurance jobs. I think part of it is if they don't deem it a "nice" car or they think the owner is not an enthusiast they will do a half-arsed job. Also, panelbeaters load themselves up with too many jobs because insurance work is easy money and they want to take as much of it as they can (to the detriment of a quality job) Be their most annoying customer and they will sort out the issues. EDIT: Don't forget to report their quality of work to your insurance company... they take notice of it and will take them off their preferred repairer list if many people complain.

Driving down lincoln road in christchurch yesterday, saw this, thinking meh, grey E32 how positively ordinary... wait, that pin striping... it can't be a... HOLY SHUCKING FICK... So yeah, Alpina B12, I had tingles up my spine for about 5 minutes. For anyone not aware of the B12 http://www.alpina-archive.com/?page_id=203 And yerp, not just a rebadge, the real deal https://www.carjam.co.nz/car/?plate=gyy483

Strange... not sure who's being serious here because Glen is the one that often says 'a little but of knowledge and some tools can be a disaster' but that's what he recommending above? Either way Dimitrious here's what's involved: http://www.beisansystems.com/procedures/m62tu_vanos_procedure.htm - and you can do it yourself with some patience and tools (which may be difficult/expensive to get in NZ). Certainly if you pay somebody to do it ($$$) make sure they provide a written warranty on workmanship that covers all of your costs to get back on the road (which could mean a new engine) if something does go wrong.

I've been looking for an E34 for quite some time & after a sale fell through I decided to keep my money & cert my current car (well that was the plan). Cue Montreal Blue E36. It was advertised as a "Kelleners" tuned car & my interest was piqued. The ad mentioned the car having the K1 Sport Kit, consisting of cams, ECU tuning & suspension. Needless to say I was pretty dubious, but a short test drive left me wondering. Fast forward 3 weeks & the car is now in my possession. The first thing to address was the question of it it really was what it was advertised as. So on Saturday morning I ripped off the valve cover and grabbed my digital calipers. Found it to have Schrick cams and the ECU to bear the Kelleners name. Pics can be found here So overall pretty stoked, and kinda annoyed that there's little to no information out there on Kelleners cars. I've a lead that says that the heads were ported and polished too, in time I'll have to investigate. The plan at this point is to manual convert it, transfer the LSD from my other E36 over, fix the interior headliner, fix the drivers seat recliner, look into rebuilding the shocks & replacing the exhaust and headers with M3 parts.

Does anyone have experience with headers on their E46? I was looking at these ones on TM but having to modify the o2 sensor doesn't seem right. http://www.trademe.co.nz/motors/car-parts-accessories/bmw/accessories/auction-941979903.htm

Spent $50 getting the excess wax sucked out of my ears from 3 years of earplugs and dirty fingers. I can now hear my bosses keyboard from the other side of the office. Weow! Also, 1 week left of work! f**k YES!

Now it's back on at starting reserve of $2,500. So keen, but more keen to not get murdered by fiance for buying another car

just crank it up till you pop the welds in your strut towers, that out to correct the camber

Actually its not quite that simple, they make very little money out of insurance work and the insurance companies mess around and take months longer to pay than they should. Its a heavily regulated industry, they only allow a set amount per hour for labour and often the insurance companies won't pay for genuine parts (also only allowed to make a tiny margin on these) (depending on the insurance company). A load of the average work is a result of the insurance companies not being willing to pay full price. But in this case, the panel beater was being paid for extra work and they have no excuses at all really and I'd be taking it back too.
  24. 1 point
I do like them as well. There are quite a few sets floating around in New Zealand i have seen pop up over the years. Wouldnt be surprised if this car was origianlly on them before getting its M3 wheels its on now.
  25. 1 point
Being a panel beater myself , that's some sh*t work, they may see it as " an old Toyota " or whatever. looks as if it's been done in the back yard of someone's house. Try get the probs resolved at another shop. Chances are if the original shop have to redo it, it won't get much better.

Thanks, hopefully the manual conversion won't be too far off, the Jatco has seen better days.

All I see is a job unprofessionally done by someone that dosen't give a f**k because they are on a sh*t pay scheme from an employer under pressure to do a job for 50c an hour with unqualified staff = most of Aucklands preferred insurance repairer's. All the professional repairers doing quality work won't do work for most of the dominant Insurance companies now

Not true. The other side is there in plain view for us to see. This is a shitty job period. Mike, did you pay ask for a shitty job or a reasonable one?

Funny story...my Active Autowerke order which included the FMIC sailed through customs without getting hit lol I found it's quite hit and miss attracting duty - also don't get it shipped to the workshop directly - I got a few packages in the end that was being marked commercial instead of personal which was painful getting cleared up in the end With my large items - eg wheels, exhausts etc I used kiwishipping.co.nz - most vendors have cheap rates to ship within the USA , gets delivered to the mainfreight depot in California - then sea shipped to Auckland I heard prices have gone up , but for example - when i shipped my 2x CF sideskirts and 4x apex wheels - shipping was $160 NZ only downfall instead of airfreight is waiting 3 weeks for the items to arrive...

The cost of the repairs may reflect the result... no offence intended... this also has a two sided storey with only one side presented

I am nowhere near FBO but have installed JB4 tune + Dual intakes + chargepipe with BOV + OCC and was very cheap considering the impact they had. Around US$1400 landed in NZ 2-3 months ago. Bought it from Mike at modbargains (website at http://www.x-ph.com) who gave a great deal and excellent service/packaging. He also marked on the box that they were consumables with $100 value so avoided GST which was a nice surprise so obviously deals internationally a lot. I also imported some wheels + tires from the US earlier in the year which I would advise before starting any power mods - I wouldn't like to think how the run-flats would cope after a tune considering they were already pretty sketchy at stock Otherwise my 135i is a Jap import only came in last year - I took it to BM Workshop in Botony for piece of mind and had plugs, filters, fluids replaced - plus a walnut blast and it goes great! No issues since installing the tune or parts

I vote without center cap. They're going to look good on there. Sorry about the delay with measuring the driveshaft, finally got some time today. It was 1550mm (might be +/- a bit as the exhaust etc. is installed so couldn't get the tape 100% straight)

Awesome thread. I'm going to be doing something similar to the seats of my 750i at some stage though not to this extent. Just a few small patches for me. Very cool project you've got going there.

Great work. If you use a better quality paint brush you will get far less bristles falling out and sticking to the seat. The seats look magic!

Local council passed a bylaw which means you can no longer wash cars on the driveway. Apparently the local BP drive through car wash is my only option now unless I create a grass area. Only thing with creating a grass area is the council passed a bylaw protecting the trees on the rest of the section a couple years before. Might as well start using sandpaper on the paint finish now

I don't care what anyone says, if its does not have a third pedal its not a manual transmission.
