Diving in the Bay of Islands (well Cavallii Islands actually) at the Rainbow Warrior for the first time and swimming with dolphins during your surface interval. Magic, just pure magic. Edit: oh, and a trip back from Russell to Auckland that involved only about 10 other cars/trucks/vans on the road. Pure bliss. I've never, ever tracked 230 odd km's on NZ's State highways with less traffic. Ever. And I got to do it in an M3. What a f'ing great long weekend (took Fri/Mon off) that was!

Did the coro loop on my bike yesterday and saw a very nice AW M5 in its natural habitat, the gas station. Driver was pouring some oil into it as well. Also saw an E36 M3 on the northern last night being driven like a maniac. Number plate was "M3AN".

Thinking about selling my E30 and just want to see whether there is any interest for it. 1986 E30 325i PFL Cosmos Blue Metallic PRICE: $5k Bought it probably 6 months ago now for $6k, I've only put about 300 KM's on it. Always kept her clean, waxed, and garaged. Literally never drive her anymore, So she just sits in my garage and I take her out every weekend to keep the battery going. 256,000KM's, and the only real noticeable signs that she might of done that many is that the valve clearance/tappets tick is audible(especially with the stock exhaust). With a new engine and you wouldn't even think it had 100,000. The Bad: -I believe it still has original clutch in it, its perfectly drive-able but I have a replacement anyway, Just haven't got round to getting it put in. - Sticking with the transmission, From the research I've done it seems like either the input shaft bearing or throwout bearing needs replacing as after the engine is warm and the clutch is out(car in neutral) there is a tapping noise coming from the tranny. -Valve clearance/tappets tick after 3k revs is pretty audible(especially with the stock exhaust). Doesn't 'really' affect drive ability and you get used to it. -No radio or dome lights I am planning to get clutch replaced and the bearing replaced at the same time and I've been quoted around $450-510 for clutch replacing labour, not too sure on bearing replacement cost. With that in mind I'd consider selling it for cheaper as it is now with the fact that they would probably need to be fixed/replaced eventually. The good: -Lowered on Kings springs(looks much nicer, but its not too low) -Pretty much new brake pads -M-tech 1 Steering wheel -No dent's -Interior is pretty mint, all matching door cars and seats etc. -Chrome bumpers still all shiny and good condition. -No rust that I've found. -Paint is still pretty good, No signs of clear coat fade, Not one spot of rust on the car that I have found yet, The odd rock chip in the front in the clear coat but that's inevitable. -Tires have plenty of tread, and has bottle caps on it that are good condition other than the BMW logo/stickers in the middle have come off. -Has a sunroof which is always a bonus. -Starts first time and has never given me a problem -Crackless dash -Manual -It's a Manual 325i e30... isn't that enough.... Odd jobs I've done: Tranny oil change I did an oil and filter change when I first got it. Reconnected the heater core as it was bypassed(leak tested it as well) Replaced some fuel line that was getting dry/brittle. Painted valve cover Hoping to get somewhere in the $5-6K range ideally, And like I said previously, Could sell it to the buyer as it is now and reduce the price(around $5k) for repairs and give them the replacement clutch etc. Or get it fixed and try to sell it for around $6k in the future. Unfortunately don't have many interior/specific photo's(some of which are from when I bought it(ones with the basket weaves)) as I wasn't really thinking of selling it yet, but if theres interest I'll take some more. EDIT: ADDED SOME INTERIOR PHOTOS. - as you can see all that is really needed to complete the interior to make it perfect is the driver side under steering wheel kick panel and a radio/cover plate.

Spotted EUROHO's old E46 with the green-ish wheels in Wellington. Never seen it in person before and it's very impressive. Stands out well. Was surprised to see it here. Hopefully they'll join the forum!

I know this has probably been covered before, but i am having trouble understanding the mentality of some NZ business owners! I needed a rebuild kit for the e21 carb, im a realist so i didnt expect to waltz in and buy one off the shelf, but after talking to a local supplier who quoted me $207, i said go ahead and order it, ring me when it gets here. 1 week later i havent heard anything so i call in to see if its arrived ? No, we cant get it, they dont make it anymore would you like to buy a new carb for $1000? No, i reply, i would like to rebuild the carb i have and get this car going so i can sell it. We could order one from italy but i only order once a month so it wont be until the end of the month, should be about $90. I will get back to you, i reply, and leave. I have just spent about 3 minutes on ebay, found the exact kit i need, from a reliable seller, for $102 NZ shipped, and it will arrive before the other guy places his stock order, but i bet he keeps moaning about how hard it is to compete with "the internet". If anyone can explain to me the logic behind this i would love to hear it, in the meantime i will support local businesses who make an effort to help me out.

You have just under a month. Heaps of time.

IMO, you will get bored of this very quickly. End of the day, I would rather take a car with power and good handling than audio/looks/inflatable hot chick in the passenger seat. Here's an E39 540i exhaust clip https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SD_OdUxvXIQ

I have a reconditioned head to swap over anyway as the valve stem seals were shot on my one. This just brings this swap forward. I'm just hoping its the head gasket and not something else.

checking if the Vanos is still operating is the first step, and rebuilding if necessary. from there, can open up the exhausut a bit, leave the intake side well alone apart from putting a fresh air filter into the STOCK airbox, make sure the oxygen sensors are working correctly and within spec. after all that, book it in to be remapped, note this will involve a drive to auckland, there just isnt anyone experienced with remapping BMWs in wellington. hope this helps. can also look into stroking it and/or cam swaps etc but gets into the big $$ at that point

I know I'm to the only one thinking it....who's gonna be the first to say it? Tough break Nathan, as much as I think you're insanely optimistic going to all that effort to save a horrible little N46 I always root for the underdog! Bad luck dude

There's other places it could happen, but it's extremely unlikely. Sounds like you have the two main culprits under suspicion.

Up the budget and look for a higher spec E46 330i. If you go for an E9x 323/325i you'll wind up with a similar performance & handling level in a much smaller (and significantly more boring, IMO) car. Or if waiting isn't really your thing look for an E39 530i or a 540i, M if you can find a nice one. Far more responsive suspension setup and a power & torque curve much better suited to the weight & handling characteristics of the E39. Will have some change from your 9k budget too

I suppose it all depends on how you define "maniac". I'd love you to elaborate. In public if you wish. Edit: please tell me you're not the one with that 'X' on the side of your car... ??? The one sitting in the right hand lane?

A bloody sight more than they sell for now! In my eyes an unmolested CSL is the only true successor to the E30 EVO - all the good stuff with none of the junk you don't really need.

Shame its so far away, I'm in Christchurch. I figure any E30 manual, particularly a coupe with a rego that is still live should fetch a grand easy. Looks like a fun project to me, GLWS.

nice did a trip to hastings etc , all the back roads etc not much traffic and in a e28 with 3.65L m5 engine don't need to change gears that often 4th and 5th over all the hills , and third gear overtaking goes by in a blast

Thinking about getting a new phone - mine has done well for the last several years, but it is showing signs of being quite tired. I like the spec of the Galaxy S7 Edge... Except for the size. OK, you can get the Galaxy S7, but that doesn't have the curved sides. Bit of a gimmick, but I like it. The Galaxy S6 Edge was the same size as the S7, and it had curved sides... Why does the S7 Edge have to be bigger than the S7???

Look into Dynavin or an Android unit rather. More for your money than trying to hack an iDrive unit in. iDrive isn't that great.

now that's exactly what I figured they'd be attractive for: doing some skidz on #8 ) so Ahmed, these could, ultimately, be shredded... on the end of somebody's diff. And hey, if you were in a hole and just needed some llantas negras that hold air and pass a WoF until you can afford some real tyres, these are them. My tyre guy described them as being a fine tyre if all you're doing is punting around town... and added something like "until it rains", so they could be useful for skidpan training too! When you're done, you can add them to that retaining wall you've been building, or make a few tyre swings! How 'green' is that? Reduce, reuse, recycle... our dingbat mayor would be pleased I guess if you out--of-towners are keen, if you arranged it with Andy's Bimmersport Freight Services (™), I'd happily drop these out to Seaview. They is going on TradeMe tonight at $150, so snag yourself a cheap tyre bargain today. Hell, these are cheaper than a bottle of good Japanese 18YO Single Malt. You know it makes sense.

Touch-less washes are only any good at keeping a clean car clean, and your right if the chem dosing or cycle duration's get out of spec you'll eat your paint. Red is the most susceptible leaving a cloudy/chalky appearance. Most of the water reclaim systems wind up being bypassed as they require significant upkeep, or you get oils and road film being reapplied with the first rinse. If the system is operating correctly the recycled water is only used for the initial wash down. Generally speaking I'd avoid any machine car wash (touch-less or roll-over brush) if you want you paint finish to remain intact.

Could just spend lots of money and run braided lines from the master cylinder, would be easier lol.

Looks like a nice set of wheels. +1 on Mech Breakdown Insurance - especially AutoSure (Vero). I got my E60 in October and have made 3 claims with the dealer covering one excess. Oil leaks, water tank split and iDrive (CCC) going kaput. WELL worth the investment and Autosure have been fantastic to deal with. Go for the Extreme warranty with up to $10k per fault and $350 excess. I've put an Autosure/MTF wty on the old E53 I just picked up through a private sale too. 4yrs of standard coverage for about $1600 - with $4k per fault cover and $450 excess. I think it is awesome that you buy this kind of cover on an old (2001) vehicle with 200kms on it - on a private sale. It makes a cheap vehicle less cheap, but less worrying too

I order from China multiple times a week, for customers, either because buying parts locally would write the machine off or the parts are simply not available anywhere else. You're a fkn moron to assume there is NO risk. Parts turn up faulty - good luck getting a refund or returning them. Damaged by courier - good luck Turning up late - China post is horrendously slow. Parts that turn up are actually second hand (lol) Parts are fake and don't actually work. Don't bother ordering anything during one of their numerous holidays. That's just a few examples, don't get me wrong it's still worth us importing from China, but it can be a lot of hassle.

Just to note... Got my car back today and all issues fixed, including the radio. They fixed it up so I now have all frequencies. Cheers Buy Right Cars! It's definitely doable so bring it up if you find it is still set to the Japanese frequencies. Maybe check out Buy Right Cars if this doesn't work out for you or just to have a nosey at their stock.
