Fitted, nothing better than fresh M-texture. In desperate need of some trim to replace my silver junk now though... Ordered an exciting package out of Germany over the weekend which should be here in 3 weeks, pilot sport 4S's arriving this week or early next, this car might finally start to actually take shape soon.

M42 time. Have spent the past few weeks looking sadly out at my empty berm through a rainy window, waiting for a mate of a mate to swap an m42 in to replace the cooked engine. Got it back this week and it's better than ever (*ever = in the last 18 months). Just feels lot more driveable and a lot less laboured really - I haven't wound it up yet but I'm looking forward to the opportunity. Just need to tidy a couple of things up and it'll be ready to sell 😒. Such is life. Do people care about air conditioning do you think? I know I do, but is it worth getting it all hooked up again before selling? My gut feeling is there is no way I could factor it into the purchase price, and a lot of people might not want it anyway?

Never knew I’d fall in love with a door card

short for M-Texture Alcantara Interior. Rare interior option available for E46 M3 coupes. Also was an option for E46 clubsport but only on the seats I believe. It is just a neat perforated alcantara layered fabric that was an option in place of the leather on the door cards and the leather inserts on the seats. Photo of my M texture door cards for reference:

Yes and no. If I get the under body plates for the Cayenne (people are making them now), it's actually more protected than the Prado. The underbody is flat, diff and transfer case is high up. Ground clearance, approach angle, break-over angle and departure angle of the Cayenne when in high air suspension is actually better than a non-lifted Prado. Gen 1 Cayenne/Touareg are actually not too complicated, but yet definitely can't be repaired by a farmer or Taliban. On recovery, the rear of the Cayenne is actually better than the Prado. I can put a bow shackle on the rear tow bar which will be rated substantially more than the Prado. However there is no rated recovery point on the front the Cayenne, so I have an equalizer strap and use 2 tow hitches (unrated, however people use this... unofficially rated for 2T each point) What is stopping me from turning the Cayenne into a real off-roader it's our most daily driven car. It's also the most comfortable especially for our old folks. I need to eventually buy a normal car for daily driving... but I don't drive daily. What the Prado is great is aside from the simplicity is that after market support. Since it's old Prado feels like a jeep/truck, Cayenne is like a large fat rally car. That Q7 V12 TDI would make a ridiculous project off-roader but 50k is too expensive.

you've nailed it. a large proportion of those greetin' about the rising price of e30's have had their blinkers on and missed the action in the 90's Japanese market. e30's are just following standard Classic Car price curves in times of economic uncertainty and at those key points along the age curve - either buyers, or the nostalgia factor coupled with the age and earnings factor of the buyer.

Didn't have alot of time between rain this weekend, got some small stuff tidied up. Replaced the aftermarket M5 emblem on the back, the OEM part from BMW had a plastic film over it to hold everything in place to space it the M and the 5 correctly when fit. I checked the placement, which was ok. Removed the window stickers and glued the left hand cup holder back together which didn't help it working any better.

Decided it was finally time to realize a childhood dream and get myself a V10 M5, the E39 M5 is still very much a car I'd love to own but that can wait for now. I'd been on the fence for some time but I'd been watching M539 Restorations videos on the tube and his recent videos of his E60 M5 got me thinking to the point where I'm posting this thread. 2008 BMW M5 (2006 build) 102000km at purchase Initial goals with the car is to give the car a big birthday, service all the fluids and replacing it's tired brakes. Next step will be bringing the car back to a factory look with standard wheels and removal of BLAAAACK additions.

So pretty much exactly what I just said... The reason we still have the 200sx over the 135i.

90% of E30's are running crap A/C anyway, so many will have been regassed (and slowly leaking out) with R134a without replacing the R12 condenser /dryer / valves with the upgraded R134a kit. Any E30 purchased with a/c as an option should factor in a complete rebuild of the system. I'd say leave as much of the system in place as possible and let the next owner (me 🤔 I'll message you) deal with it.

Will be a much classier car once your return it to a stock appearance. All the mods the prior owners did really reduce the quality look, especially as the add ons age, like the rear badge.

As long as it’s possible for it to be hooked up, that would be enough of a box tick for me. I don’t think it would be a deal breaker considering the rest of the work you have done on the car.

As a future prospective E30 owner, I've kind of resigned myself to the fact that it most likely won't have it. I imagine it would fall more into "Oh thats a bonus" territory, rather than people willing to pay extra for it - with these less likely to be a daily.

Leave the aircon in there at least; the next buyer can take it on. You must promise me an evaluation ride with you. Congrats on getting it fitted, and well done the other Chris fitting it all in. You going to cert it before sale?

that's all well and good by objective measures. then introduce (say) the E-Type Jaguar. They used to be somewhat affordable. Pretty affordable, given what they were sold alongside. And viewed - at the time - as a healthy performer. Will it measure up to tour NZ in against the 08 135i you mentioned? In roadholding, performance, and safety terms, absolutely not. Yet someone who wants what they wants, won't care a fig for how much better the modern car is. Even the poor-man's E-type, the MGB. Or BGT! You're valiantly trying to pass an objective measure against a subjective item. There's a less-than-comfortable fit there. It works for you, and you're scratching your head about why someone would spend crazy money on an old E-Type. Or the MGB. And they'll recognise that the BMW 135i is a superior car, but even at the same or less money, won't provide what they're looking for. And that, is the secret sauce.

Damn that's a good looking car! Yours too, @adro😆 I think it's time for a swapping rematch, compare stock springs and shocks (with the big bars and staggered setup) with your Eiback/Billie touring setup. I know your bars are also big - be interesting to see if you still perceive mine as handling really flat after living with yours for a few months.

All of the Colorlock kits work excellently together. The leather cleaner works miracles. I always finish the whole lot off with Elephant Leather Preservative (from Colorlock) and it keeps things supple, protected, and looking good.

lots of late model headlights and tailights are failing , led parts fail and often not repairable , unless just a module

You have an interesting control systems problem. To stop the alarm/light/limp-mode coming in at idle/low rev's, you need to be able to either: - Arm the alarm based on a certain rev level, say 25 PSI when over 2,000 rpm - Vary the alarm with a model, say 5 PSI below normal oil pressure. Needs an oil pressure gage so you can do the modelling. For flicking the DME into limp mode, all you need to do is find a sensor signal that when lost, put the DME into limp mode, then put a relay contact into the signal that is driven from your oil pressure monitor. I'm not up to date with the N54's, but on the later automatic E46's, the loss of the MAF signal put the EGS into limp mode. The DME runs on Alpha-N's for air control, which don't harm the engine in any way

Busy weekend working on the M5. The car now has new brake disc's/pads/sensors all round, aside from having to drill out the set screws on the front disc's the job was fairly easy. Completed a brake fluid flush with some Motul DOT4 LV. Replaced the cabin air filters which were dated 2016. Replaced all 9.3L of oil with BMW supplied 10w60. Was happy to see no leaks of any kind under the engine/trans/diff, BM Workshop has done a fantastic job of making the car look like it's never had the engine out.

Cheers for the leather tip, once all the servicing and exterior stuff was taken care of the next item was the leather. I was looking into a kit from Colourlock to repair some of the cracking in the drivers bolster.

Is a struggle to decide what to run, so good to have options. Buying tyres is killing me though! Be cheaper buying a tyre machine I think
