Yep BP=Bullshit prices. Mobil are much better here, sometimes their 98 gets a bit pricey compared to 95 so i just switch to that.

    E39 2000 540i Msport

Damn I thought was just the '2', maybe it didnt look hard enough. Ive got a AK speedo ribbon repair that i never got to try as i found a good one.
  4. Yep and all the other little bits in other areas it likely needs. Looks to be a decent example to fix up though from the photos, throw 3-4k at it in parts and it should be very tidy.

    Quick rant thread.

Mid 90's ie 95\96 depending on the exact model was when it was coming to a close. I know they still used in some other areas like ETA's and mirrors on W140's even though the main loom was fixed.

    E34 540iS

If memory serves he always wanted ~24k in past auctions. The problem is no one wants to own it for that so he appeared explore other 'tactics'.
  7. Just about every ACS spring and strut ive seen were black, they should be marked AC Schnitzer with part numbers and a date (on the springs at least). I had ACS springs on my E39 and saw the original struts at the time of buying the springs, they were also black.

  9. Ive got one you can have for free but its probably not practical to give it to you.
  10. Are you referring to oil filters? Those chassis have a too many engines between them to guess what it is you want. Ive got a few Mann branded 11427512300.
  11. It's nice but you'd have to take $750-1000 off that price to throw the Monroes in the bin, then put back what should of been used - Bilstein Tourings or the Sachs sports at the min.

  15. The laws weren't perfect and were due for some loop hole corrections but they offered a fair balance for decades, the police failed to enforce them in this instance. People who are genuinely scared over firearm aesthetics aren't people who i consider rational or possess the knowledge to know anything on the subject besides what the media tells them, the same type people who equate what they see in the US and apply it to NZ. Id wager most owners have legitimate uses for a firearm, just because someone purpose doesn't align with their thinking doesn't mean it should be written off. Firearms related stats are a drop in a ocean but it's a easy group to target for a "win" when all the real issues are just too politically\financially difficult.
  16. You can get full Meyle front and rear kit for $1500 landed, even cheaper if you customize it. Doesn't appear much cheaper to me given the quality.
  17. I find pickle forks are harder to use without a hoist etc. I use something similar to that repco one at home. You can always use a hammer to whack it also if its not breaking once you have wound it up the pressure, sometimes you can leave them for a couple of mins and they will crack themselves under pressure.
  18. Yeah likely on mostly original parts but that's nothing new. Its only the real enthusiasts who spend $ doing preventative maintenance.
  19. If the red line is where the original spring end sat then its just standard procedure to put it back in the same place but given its a new spring it may sit in a slightly different position and there maybe some leeway as stated. Given i didnt install the springs so i can only guess that they were seated properly and not binding up on the inner lip causing them to sit high. They appear ok from the photos but its only so much you can tell from the internet. If the ride heights are relatively even as you say suggest then personally id give it more time\use before dismantling.
  20. As i stated lower pads in these E46's like E39's etc don't use a stop. Your photo 'spring end' and the OP photos show roughly the correct position which the spring end actually sits, which inches away from the 'end stop'. There is leeway in positioning the spring also before the spring starts to bind up against the inside lip of the pad https://blog.bavauto.com/18698/bmw-how-to-e39-5-series-525i-528i-530i-540i-m5-strut-spring-seat-and-spring-alignment/
  21. If you can DIY then its decent. If not then you are just gambling with a big potential money pit if its got no proven history.
  22. Yeah i eventually figured it out. Drivers side spring does appear to need rotating clockwise slightly like others have but is the new spring sitting in the original position of the old spring on the pad? Is the other side the same? These lower pads don't have any stops and have some leeway when positioning the spring. When you buy new pads you don't have any reference so they can be clocked slightly either way. As long as the spring isn't riding up on the inner ledge of the spring pad causing it raise up then i don't see it as a problem.
  23. Not saying they arent and OE ones could well as you say but i had a quick look and cant evidence of them being side specific, esp aftermarket stuff These picture angles are messing with me
  24. Im betting once the wet surface sets in. Assuming you aren't putting a big mark up on it then i agree it's probably a good thing you bought it as it mitigates much of the risk for the new owner.
