How can you judge any car when you drive a fit? xDxDxD

Been discussed many times. Gonna close this thread but a quick search will find one of the other ones about this car.

When is too much power just about enough? While back in the UK recently, I was talking to a development engineer who works at Lotus. Aside from all the Norfolk-based stuff, he suggested looking up a guy called Erik Zackrisson, someone who isn't afraid of tripling the size of the engine in his car. He has built a Lotus Exige fitted with a S85 V10, managed by a standalone EMS. There's several videos on Youtube under two channels - Erik Zackrisson, and M3E30V10. The second one is a bit of a giveaway, too... Just as a little taster: Check the channels for more vids. I wonder if a development would see him nip across from Sweden to Norway to pick up one of these? S85 twin-turbo on methanol. 1851bhp. Sub-7s 1/4 mile...

I think you have Jon mixed up with me to be honest, that description is literally what I put in my bio when I made my account however many years ago. I do agree with what Jon said though.

She's for sale, a bit reluctantly. Its a rear wheel drive V8 manual, black on black should about do it for description..... More fun than a handie at the movies as a teenager Updated Km's and interior photos. '95 E34 540i, NZ new. About 10 months reg and new WOF. Has heaps of Km's 288400 Fairly tidy for a twenty year old who's been driven in all manners and sometimes without manners. I've not really put too much importance on the cosmetics but have always kept it in good oil and serviced it. I'll have a file of maintenance invoices that can be viewed and will stay with the car. Some of the goodies: Getrag 420G 6 speed Blistein HD shocks (guessing 25k on them) H&R springs, not sure of spring rates but good for road driving 3.25 LSD put together by Kayne Barrie M5 3.8/MSport 25mm front sway bar M5 3.8/NURBURGRING 20mm rear sway bar JB Racing single mass light weight flywheel and 850csi clutch kit, throw out bearing and larger slave cylinder as part of kit. Exhaust, had custom built from collectors back, no idea if there's any power gains but it sound tits with the noise on. ACS Type I 8.5" x 17" Et 13. Toyo Proxie 4's. Cosmo Scwartz. Black leather, MSport seats with electric adjustable fronts, memory function not working as would need a different harness (if no one else drives it who cares right). Three spoke steering wheel instead of the boat wheel with the bloody great pillow. Sun roof. Shadow lined. SuperChip chipped ECU, no idea what if any real world power increase this would have made I have the factory "business" stereo with CD changer for the boot, I replaced it to get blue tooth ph with some generic looking Alpine head unit, all factory speakers, no sub. I've a Hartage front bumper that needs repair and fitting and a glass Msport rear that can go with if the price is right, both need painting though are some very dark grey (were on Brent's 535 some years ago for those who have been around for a while). Its going to need suspension bushes as an ongoing maintenance item, I think the stiffer springs / shock and sways and maybe my driving all accelerate this common E34 issue. Just starting to get a slight shimmy so will do the thrust arms prior sale. Has a tow bar. Also have a set of Whisper bar roof racks with mounts that can be bought in addition, they have been fitted to the car briefly but they don't really whisper so they came off once I moved away from the surf. There are a few super market dings and scratches, shes' no perfect show pony For those of you who have seen it, I think its an honest car its a lot better to drive than look at it. Aircon needs new pump fitted (I have it, just need to fit it) and will then need re-gassing, the electro-clutch bearing was making a racket so took the belt off as an interim fix. Price: $9500, I'm realistic and would appreciate any relevant input as I really don't know what its worth in the market. Not in any hurry to sell if the market is too low it'll stay as a toy. PM me of more info or a look. No money no drive.

Nice car pedigree! Don't worry about skipping the AA report, their reports are worth about as much as a child's crayon drawings.

I would rather an Active Tourer than that steaming turd of a car. Pretty sure it was to be branded as a 7 series until they changed their minds at the 11th hour, believing that they'd sell more as a 5. Still based on the F01 chassis though, which ss why it's so bloody massive.

Yeah, a e36 323i would sneak under the limit. With a factory 0-100 time of 8 seconds its just as quick as any other car.

Congrats on the purchase. In my 5 years of experience with the exact same model I had one big repair job which was the timing chain guides. Mine gave up at 250k. If you're handy with IT stuff get an old laptop, buy a diagnostic cable of ebay and install INPA and DIS. These tools should help you track down your mis fire issue and Air bag problem. At that age and mileage expect to replace all cooling system components including the valley pan (inlet manifold off job) Oil leaks (valve covers, CCV) and suspension bits and pieces. Torque converters and transmissions sometimes play up. the water cooled alternator is rebuildable. That's about all the $$$$ stuff I can think of. Enjoy it otherwise!

Your right. Definitely a parts car. I'd still like to see if I can get it running before I dismatle it. As the water only seeped into the footwells I think the only problem I'll have will be with the connection box under the passenger seat. It sits in a hollow in the floor so even if you get all the water out it will still end up looking like ths.

We are currently changing the rules to try mix up the field a bit for season 3, and due to the lack of Euro's we are bringing in a "EuroCUP" class that removes the 2000cc limit and puts a 180hp limit on any European cars instead. Season 3 rules will be released at the end of the month, check out the facebook page for updates http://facebook.com/2kcup

are these like most modern cars and have super crucial electrical modules sitting on the floor pan under carpet?
  15. 1 point
100% parts car imo. With such water damage you're going to have to strip most of the car apart to asses it all. Various modules too could have shorted due to the water ingress

No idea what the pro opinion is on the ZE912 but using them on the rear of the 530i as well, very happy for price / performance / road noise

Have it home now. Theres still a good inch of water sloshing around the rear footwells but other than that it's really tidy. I stopped at a service station in Palmy and a guy came up and said he'd sold it about 3 months ago and wondered why it was on my trailer. Told him the story about it being flooded to the sills. He was a bit sad but proceeded to give me the history of the car. Turns out about 6 months ago he had the trans fully recondition and cost him a couple of grand. Dont know if it'll ever run again though. I turned the ignition on and everything went haywire. I've disconnected the battery and will get the interior dried out and I'll try again.

Call me stupid but is the original listing even a "genuine" M3 GTR? Has a lot more aftermarket bits than BMW bits, or is that normal for a GTR?

Public displays of affection. Not like just holding hands or the normal stuff. But the couples that insist on having a face tongueing session every time they have to wait at the pedestrian crossing or for their f**king chai latte to be made.

What do people hear when they listen to that type of music, 'cos it can't be what I hear...Maybe people say it is good music just to conform. Do people actually think that sounds good compared to a good jazz cover band like Postmodern Jukebox?

Glued my IS lip back together, repaired, painted and fixed it to the car. New ignition switch, got the drivers seat sliding and all the interior lights going again. Replaced glove box latch with lock-less version. Oil and filter change and bit of a cut/polish! Should be good for WOF tomorrow. Successful weekend I reckon!

I have just had a similar thing happen to me. But we dealt with it a different way. I didn't go running to the media after the issue had been resolved like the tosser in the "article" did. We supplied all the data to the owner. Let him have his say and a bit of time to look at the situation. We got a written apology from the employee that had breached our trust and the law. It happened to be a 19 year old mechanic. If we had supplied the data to the police he would have lost his licence for at least 12 months. 158kph. The owner couldn't apologize enough. He was quite embarrassed by it all. We were given our money back for all the work that had been completed. Although the owner is responsible for his staff. He can't stop them from making mistakes. This kid made a pretty big mistake and cost his employer business. I doubt he will be doing it again anytime soon knowing how close he came to loosing his job and his licence. Because of this I had no interest in sharing the info with the Media or the Police. It would ruin his business. And that is just not fair. You need to be careful these days. With the focus on Health and Safety more and more vehicles are having telematics devices installed into them. Police are using this data as evidence quite frequently now. I work for a telematics company. I often see drivers being let go for excessive speed. And am getting more and more requests from Police to supply data from crashes.

Funnily enough the e39 m5 wasn't fitted with brake duct cooling from factory (may be different for the U.S. cars with different rotors). You can retrofit the 540i MSport air ducts and wheel well liners (or cut the holes yourself). There's more information on M5Board. I've never really felt the need to install them as I don't track the car and it leads a pretty easy life. In saying this, the brakes are probably its weakest point and I have overheated the front disks during some spirited driving...

Watch out for rust around the jacking points on uk examples. Evolve automotive have a lot of experience with the e39 m5. They're in Luton, Bedfordshire.

The 'cooling mod' is suited to the US spec cars which don't have the Euro 2 piece type floating rotors which have better cooling ability. US spec rotors : Euro spec rotors : I think on the Ring, stock brakes in good nick will be ok for a couple of enthusiastic laps. BBK would be mandatory if you're planning on visiting Hockenheim or any tracks over here in NZ.
