So I gave the Baur some new pipes today. Remus rear muffler and 2.5 inch from the headers back. So much quieter than the double exhaust and rear muffler which was rotten at its core. There definitely wasn't enough back pressure. The remus is nice and quiet and it is really raspy at the higher rev ranges Heres some pics

When I first got the car I did, but nowdays a little difficult putting a toddler in with rear facing seats plus capsule so it hasn't been a daily for a while now. In fact it doesn't actually get driven enough and I simply don't have the time to use it at all and I have actually been thinking about hiring a responsible individual to run the car for me every week : /

BNZ for the win. 13.45% (most other banks are over 20%) and flybuys. Our mortgage is with BNZ also so we get heaps of flybuy points each month. The rewards are pretty cool - I've got a powerbuilt tool box, trolley jack and jack stands, tools etc. The wife has got heaps of kitchen gadgets, which double up as rewards for me too. This reward took exactly six months to save up points for; https://www.flybuys.co.nz/rewards/powerbuilt-9-drawer-racing-series-tool-chest

Hi all Long time Beemer admirer - first time owner (the 316 compact I owned in Aussie does NOT count lol) after taking a Jap import from a car yard for an AA check in the mid 90's and finding out it was a cut and shut and cut and shut again - yes... it was three seperate cars!!!... I got Treone's ex Jap 525 M yesterday, gave it a groom and it looks great... of course, it's not perfect (no 14 year old car is) so I'm keen for advice on ICE updates. The CD/tape doesn't work and of course there's no BT or USB capability. I'm on a tight budget and can't justify throwing a grand or more at it - but if anyone has some suggestions on what can be done to provide some digital options that'd be appreciated. Aside from that (and a replacement HVAC button) it's pretty straight and should be a good to/from work cruiser. Cheers and thanks in advance for your collective advice and experiences

I once said never, I guess never say never?? When you don't get invited for test drives, just buy one LOL. What can you do when the wife says "yep this one" His and hers : )

Wowzers, you can find the good deals!! My mate managed it so never say never. You just have to be in the right place at the right time. These forums are probably the last place to ask for a good deal though.

http://www.amazon.co.uk/iClever-Bluetooth-Hands-Free-Convenient-Activation/dp/B00L4Y98QI Plugs into your Aux port and cig lighter (for power) to give you BT audio and handsfree calls. I have it, it's awesome If your car has steering wheel controls you might want to look into the Grom Bluetooth kit. It takes the place of the CD stacker. Installed one on my E46 after buying online for about $150 (probably closer to $200 now thanks to the exchange rate.

That's where westpacs air points debit MasterCard comes in . Easy to pay everything with it, and you will never fail to pay the bill at the end of the month because it is a debit card. Who offers rewards on a debit card?! It's genius.

great car for the price. a little bit low in terms of power for my liking but as you said, it would make an excellent to and from work cruiser. and for the price, cant really go wrong! As always, if you dont have a huge amount of money to spend - best thing to do are basic maintenance items if not done recently. most obvious being engine oil and filter. really cant go wrong with doing this. next step is a scan to see any fault codes for any malfnctions or errors that it may have or may have had in the past. then you can spend money on luxury thingys like aux (aux is the cheapest and easiest) or dynavins

Harhar. Camry might be fun? I could see one of these V8s shoved into Lotus 7 type of thing. That intake and exhaust noise out two cobra style side pipes. Heaven!

The proper way to use a credit card (if you are disciplined) is to buy everything with it and then pay it off each month before you incur interest. I mean put absolutely everything on it, pay your bills, buy your groceries, petrol... my parents built their entire house using their credit card.... they got some serious rewards dollars from that. Even if you're on a modest salary you can rack up some good rewards dollars that way. I use my dollars to buy tools from Mitre 10 every couple of months. Even better, if you have a mortgage then get a revolving credit facility so you can pay down your mortgage each month and then take that money out again at the end of the month to pay off your credit card... will mean you pay less interest on your mortgage.

Bought a discount card through work for mag and turbo, $100 for a bunch of stuff with free labour, few services, wheel alignments, puncture repairs etc. Thought cant really go wrong. Took the 130i in a few months ago, asked for .5 degrees more camber on the front, the rest as spec. Got it back from the tech, who looked to be 15 years old, who told me the camber isnt adjustable. Told him the strut towers are slotted, replied with "oh". Gave up and drove off, shaking head at the wobbly ass wheel alignment figures, some not in spec, and the 2nd wheel alignment sticker stuck next to the old one. Wrote it off as - "well, ya get what ya pay for" Wifes VW golf service indicator popped up last week, 72k, thought screw it will give M&T another go. Booked the car in for 1pm, she took our 2 month old down and was told come back at 3-3.30. She came back with son in the pram after strolling around the shops and the VW was only just going up on the hoist. By 5pm they had changed the oil and airfilter... Went to go drive it today, they havent even reset the fecken service indicator warning. I still have a bunch of stuff to check off my "discount card of free labour" but Id honestly rather just pay the money and take to someone who knows what they are doing. Pay peanuts, get Monkeys. /endrant

i generally dislike the american ones, the english shows are good which are on tv but then someone puts online some place, and never miss an episode of MCM, good laid back show for a bit of a laugh, and comedy from a little closer to home too.

Kind of unrelated but these two dudes that do "mightycarmods" on youtube is pretty funny imo. Australian guys doing budget mods to dumb cars. Check it out if youre bored

I once spent about 4 hours getting from Glenfeild to Meremere..... There weren't many cars leaving the "carpark" in Glenfield, but there were a LOT trying to get INTO Meremere We actually parked on SH1 for a while, just north of Huntly - I seem to recall people having lunch on the roadside.

You mean people accelerate to 100kmh before the end of the on ramps? NZ (South Auckland particularly) needs a new road sign that says : Get off ya Fn Phone and Hurry The F Up for the next 100km

So this is scary. just tried to insure my new Suzuki Swift Sport, all was going well until it came time to list the modifications. So, to be clear the mods lists are adjustable suspension, exhaust, pod filter and wheels. Nothing too serious. That all went well, other than the stupid woman not knowing what a modified intake was, but then suddenly im slapped with a $2000 excess because my car is "excessively modified". When questioned they claim its system imposed and nothing they can do about it. When i questioned why out of all my cars insured with them i have never had a special excess, she didnt want to hear about it. I pushed further and demanded to speak to her supervisor because she was just arguing with me. She refused, telling me that he would say the same thing. After much argument i finally get put through to a supervisor, who indeed does proceed to tell me the same thing (obviously in the 5 minutes on hold she brought him up to date), but when i questioned him about why i have never had this excess before, he decided to do some further digging. As it turns out, the reason i didnt have a special excess on my previous cars? because they never noted all the modifications at all. My golf, which had a modified exhaust, adjustable suspension, carbon front and rear, and tints was listed as just an exhaust and lowering. My turbo integra type r, which i advised of each and every part was listed as alloy wheels and exhaust (not even turbo). Basically, if i had stacked any of them, or had them stolen they would have had grounds to void my claim on the basis i never declared the modifications. Essentially what it came down to, is apparently 4 modifications is enough to increase the performance of a suzuki swift to the point where it is racekar and high risk and all my previous cars have not had their modifications correctly declared. My partner is now arranging to speak with a broker and i will be taking ALL my insurance (both cars and contents) away from STATE INSURANCE and having them correctly insured elsewhere as i cannot trust State to have competently insured me. This is just a warning to make damn sure you're insured correctly.
