Picked up a few parts while I was in Auckland. One of which was this. So glad to finally have this off the boot. Old. New and much improved. Also picked up a rear bumper so I can now do the tow bar delete without leaving a hole in the bumper where the tow bar goes through and got the 750il disk and calipers to upgrade the brakes on the 740i.

Worst for sale listing to ever appear on bimmersport.

Sounds like a good call. I'd always go bigger, given the choice. Plus big brakes look cool.

Here's a thread about the alternative flashes for the Transmission http://www.n54tech.com/forums/showthread.php?t=22180 TQ, wait till you run ethanol on the 335i.... here's a mate chasing me at hamptons in his e60 m5

I also forgot to mention that thanks to John the car now has working ABS(was missing the abs half shafts), even in the wet at decent road speeds I found it non invasive and soft when it kicked in. Will be interesting to see how it does at the track. Johns oil change shop was much appreciated, given the look of what came out it was well worth pissing John off.

Cheers Jooles. Was good to meet you all too. Nice to finally be able to put faces to names. Good meet you to Kyu. Gotta say, I knew your car was super nice from the pics but to see it in person. Wow.

Good to meet you yesterday, Dave. The 750 looks fantastic and was a standout at the meet for me. Actually, a standout because it wasn't a golf or 3 series!!! Big cars FTW!!

Bought these wheels off trademe for $250 and they came with 215 Ling Long tyres, should be a laugh. Happy this car has finally come together and I can't wait to give it a go at my private twilight trackday on the 15th. I can lower the front so that the splitter sits on the ground, but for obvious reason I won't do this, I like having a splitter.

Very Regrettably I'm selling my 1990 735i SE, it's been an awesome family car and we've enjoyed a lot of very comfortable trips in it but unfortunately I no longer have garage space for it. I've absolutely babied it in the time I've had it and I'll be very sad to see it go. It's in extremely good condition, the engine is gold inside when peeking through the oil filler. Electric seats, electric sunroof and Cruse control. I would prefer sell it to an enthusiast or someone who will take care of it. Best to come and view it if possible, I can take any additional pics if anyone wants anything in particular I'm wanting $2500 firm

So when we bought the E91 the PO had removed the 325i badge and left horrible scratch marks everywhere. I had no choice but to get the guys @ OCD to sort it out. Photos speak for themselves of the wonderful results!

Replaced my cracked intake boot and cleaned my ICV. What a difference. the idle is now steady for the first time in the e30. Also replaced my non smiley headlight with a smiley one. ( thanks Andy) Now the waterpump is pissing out so thats todays job haha. The joys of the e30 life

I'd say that's cutting it a little fine, google is pretty generous with the suggested trip time of 1:45, roadworks and holiday traffic, and getting out of the airport will slow you down. Book a later ferry and go to golden bay for a coffee, takaka hill has to be one of the best test routes for any car in nz, 365 corners and like 800m of elevation gain and loss.
  23. 1 point
It's just over 100KM so you should do it easily in 1 1/2 hours.
  24. 1 point
Factor in up to 15 mins by the time the plane lands til you get out of the airport. That's if it's running on time. Then a sh*t yarn with the guy you bought it off. Then stopping into the servo to fill it up/take a piss. I'd say yep book the later ferry. Nice bit of the country not a bad idea to have a few hrs up your sleeve for a look around as well.

BMW dealers aren't necessarily skilled in A/C diagnosis. Many will outwork to an A/C specialist. BMW software will not diagnose A/C completely, it needs a knowledgeable A/C person to do so

Good news about the coolant leak not being a coolant leak. And loving the work you've done on the paint. The clouds reflecting in the bonnet looks very nice.

750i-il brakes are the same. The front disks and calipers are larger than the 740i by quite a bit so theoretically more stopping power. It's been argued on other forums that it'll make no difference and at the end of the day ABS and tires will have the final say but if that was the case why would BMW have bothered making them bigger. Beyond all that I do drive the 740i hard at times and bigger disks and calipers will mean less heat and less brake fade under hard consistent braking,.
  34. 1 point
holy $#!+ thats quick. both your 335 and the m5
  35. 1 point
Awesome. Looking great. What's the difference in the brakes between the 740/750il? Does the 750i share the brakes with the il, or the other swb cars?

OK, so all my worst fares of coolant leaking where in vain, seems the recharged AC found its leak and popped an o ring at the fire wall, and the dye in it to see the ring was green, same colour as coolant though Have to say I'm happy for that. Off to the air con guys who are keeping it overnight to fix and diagnose the pressure build up issue then recharge, really can't have a DD without AC

You have failed to mention that you decided to do your oil change on my drive. And that it is literally, on my drive! Still by previous Watson Engineering efforts it was relatively clean and painless!!

Right, home after the meet with the day off to do the lawns, raining, OK so I'll polish the E39 then ready it for full daily duty. 4 hours later after clay, polish and wax, still got some swirls but much improved and at least protected. Looks a lot sharper and the colour is starting to pop, might have to OCD it to get a really good finish, em ... Drive out of the garage for a couple of pics and after taking these get rewarded with a pile of steam gorging out from under the bonnet, oh well looks like I know have the after noon covered checking it out. Initial small pile of green fluid sprayed onto left bank exhaust manifold. Run OBD reader and temp is solid, may be window cleaner line? Will let it cool down and check further .... TBC.

Haha yes they did. It has king springs in it which i was happy with on the 19s but 18s make it look higher id consider coilovers but would have to quality but ill see how i get on. Im wanting wider rear lips to fill out the guards abit but all future plans at this stage

Took the old interior to the dump and found the interior weighs ~110kg (front and rear seats) The 316ti weighs in at 1240KG wet + driver. In basic race trim it will be 1140KG + driver which is only 20kg more than the E30, but in saying that the wheels I have on the compact are 16KG heavier than the ones that were on the e30......so the weights are pretty much the same even though the compact will have a near complete interior. Stuff that I could remove if I wanted to go crazy, -16kg Lighter wheels -20kg fiberglass hatch -15kg fiberglass bonnet -5kg fiberglass fenders -10kg Heater and aircon crap -20kg fiberglass doors -20kg for all the misc plastic trim and crap. So another ~100kg lost would put it near 1040kg + driver, but probably not worth it unless I want a car made of fiberglass. I also put it on the dyno today, number was low and you can't really compare dyno's, but it was making 6kw more than a E46 with CSL tune (stock car) and 10kw more than standard E46 M3. Funny thing is I have 2" restrictor plate in the rear muffler to quiet the engine down for road, turns out it made more HP with it in on the dyno (4kw) Got a wheel alignment yesterday and found I had 20mm toe in, fixed now. To be fair when putting it together I only adjusted it until it tracked in a straight line, now it also likes to turn corners So all done and dusted in terms of the initial build. Half cage and tune to come in the new year, but before that I am giving it a shakedown at Hampton on the 15th, aiming for a 1:14.0 with road tires.

Yeah, where's the fun in that? I'm a little spoilt and used to the M5's torque. I tried a 335d but the petrol makes a better noise.

Paid $7500, which I think is fair for a moderate mileage M-Sport version

Before I get a proper race seat, I really wanted to get rid of the crappy stained standard seats. Managed to source some M-Cloth Motorsport seats thanks to the Dave ( SilverFox ) and they finish off the interior nicely.

Most intriguing. When your up here for the ECC event, If you're willing I've love the opportunity to take yours for a spin, its been a long time since I've driven an E38.

Spent many hours on my E38 this weekend getting it all legal and ready for ECC meet next weekend. Since i have got it the back has bounced all over the place, so got some second hand rear struts off Dave and put those in, what a difference. Sure they are probably getting a bit tired, but some shocks is better than nothing! Next time I do it ill do the H&R/Billy combo Also replaced front brake pads, very easy on this car, it has the factory 4 pot Brembo calipers, you dont even need to remove the caliper just two pins to knock out the side and away. spend more time jacking the car and taking the wheels off Replaced left lower arm, wof fail, boring Tighted up right front shock, bolt in backwards from previous owner, knuckle was sitting loosely in the strut tube, i highly doubt it could ever fall out but i never would have spotted that underneath, I doubt a normal mechanic would either, was VTNZ that found it since they use the wheel shaker machine over the pit you can see all front suspension moving very well. Then realised I didnt have a compatible brake pad wear sensor so rang around, found one today at Repco Masterton, so that was excuse enough to mission over the hill to check the car is all tickety boo for the run to Auckland on Saturday. front suspension fixes has also made the steering wheel sit dead straight too instead of slightly to the left Car handles very well for such a big car, but the new limitation is the tyres, Will have to buy some for the front at least this week I think, I just dont feel safe with them. Back can wait, its only a 728 and has ASC so its never going to even think about slipping in the back. But its a big heavy car, needs good grip for turning and braking in the back. Sorry for long post. Dont have a project thread for this car as while its getting attention like its just another car from me, its still a hack in my mind i guess! Dont get me wrong i really love the E38, but just not sure the one i fall in love with should be a 728i lol.
