I did an exercise many years ago when I had a Mitsi Legnum VR4 and ran it on the different grades of fuel, both with and without octane boosters for a period of time each and carefully measured the economy of each, 98 with no octane booster ended up being the cheapest option, ($ per km) of course the prices are all vastly higher now than they were then but it is possibly still the same result. I'm not prepared to run the M5 on anything but 98 and the Leaf doesn't care how much petrol costs so I won't be repeating the experiment.

I run a small business doing auto electrical work full time specifically for Toyota Soarers, but branching out to other Lexus-Toyota models. Get stuff sent to me for repairs from all over the world, it's pretty good. Did some BMW things originally, but not so much anymore.

Its damn cool, and beautiful E30... but yeh that price is silly considering its not "genuine".

I fail to see how this is worth more than the sum of its parts? A handful of alpina bolt ons, custom exhaust and an engine rebuild...? Where’s the alpina steering wheel and interior, body kit, other fruit and of course one of their signature colours and pin striping?

Filling the 500SE (another mortgage!) this evening with 95 at the local BP, I found myself thinking "what am I doing?" No... I'm not selling the Mercedes. Don't be silly! ? But... 95 RON was 232.9c per litre. 91 was 186.9c per litre. (It's 10c cheaper than that at Gull.) That's a huge difference. 46c per litre. Who is getting ripped off here? I'm sure there isn't more than 10-12c per litre of additives, if that. So... And bearing in mind I'm talking up to 90 litres of fuel at a time, is there an octane booster which will turn 91 fuel into something more palatable? It could cost $30 a bottle and still be cheaper than using the supposedly better fuel from the pump!

just up the road from you graham in Hastings all the gas here is still about 11c more for 95 than 91which has crept up from the 9c difference it used to be there has been some obvious changes around though Z which are next door to Pakn save used to match price now they don't bother.Havelock North 10km down the road is 20-30 dearer Hastings Pak n Save 95 is 1.86 and you can 6 c off that again, Z is 205 and 60 m away on the same side of the road Napier Pak n Save is 1.77 for 95 and you can get 6 cents off there is also gull but you don't need it when the others are behaving

Absolute gem. I left my number on this car several times 5-6 years ago, I can now see why they didn't call back! I'm guessing via the plate history that the B3 2.7 conversion was done at Team McMillan? OS3623 matches the batch of "M325i" cars that came in during 1990, then the plate swap to "ALP1NA" in 1991 makes some sense. Team Mac did three(+) AC Schnitzer cars at the same time, all of which had the 2.7 conversion, but they were on PTxxxx plates.

I can’t tell if you’re being sarcastic, but that’s okay either way, I love this style, I’ve put a muffler like this on every BMW I’ve owned. Edit: Olaf is not being sarcastic, he loves my work.

Back in Oct 2018 when the fuel prices shot over 12 days up to 2.49 / litre for 91, the differential applied was approx 10 cents litre between 91 to 95, and BP and Mobil applied another 12 cents approx for 98 Octane. You may remember there was a tremendous public outcry, and Cindy promised a commission of inquiry, which after six months deliberation decided that to level the playing field the retailers had to display on the forecourts signage, the site pricing for 91, 95 /98 octanes, and diesel. So a slap with a wet bus ticket for the big three. Now of course fuel prices have dropped significantly, 91 octane accounts for 55 - 60 % of all petrol sales and diesel / 95 or 98 the other 25 % each, but that differential has moved wider, to as Graham points out to around 40 cents litre disparity. So effectively the fuelcos are earning less but pumping more 91, and gaining back margin lost or given away to get market share in the premium sector. Interestingly in Christchurch the two majors have either 95 or 98 at the pumps, but not both. Diesel of course seems to be loosing volume, the fuelcos don't like it, neither do the service station operators, the only people who do are people who drive or operate diesel fleets. And of the three fuel types it consistently weather the storms, and today for station operators is probably giving the operator a 35 cents litre margin. And is the bottom listed product on the signage displays that were very slow to come into prominence at the forecourt. I feel so sorry for Z / Infratil the only company here with NZ shareholders that it must report to, and am quite devoid of emotion when I read in the accounts that fuel retail is a struggle in 2020. Please someone, pass a tissue? Gaspy is quite a handy app for those of you wanting to pay less and get more bang for your buck.

Yep BP=Bullshit prices. Mobil are much better here, sometimes their 98 gets a bit pricey compared to 95 so i just switch to that.
  18. 1 point
I find in my area BP is a rip off for premium but mobil is very reasonable, last fill up was 2.08 for 98 and 186 i think for 91 and the local BP is usually 35c between 91 and 98

As per the title, I'm looking for a small case, open, diff of 3.45:1 ratio. The ratio can be similar. Don't want a 4.44:1 diff. The part number is 33101428419. However something similar in spec may work. Back story. A lady in Queensland Oz has a very noisy diff with metal fragments in the bottom. Its off a 2.0L manual Z3. She can't find a diff in Oz to match. So you have to be prepared to package the diff for international shipping. Please factor that into your pricing.

Yeah I agree with what Dave says - all comes down to whether anything's being hidden or not, a good inspection would be worthwhile. Key things IMO to think about are: - RACP (as in actually drop the Subframe, clean the RACP and look for damage, it's the only way to know for sure). - VANOS (pretty easy fix with the 3rd party options available now, but would be surprised if it wasn't a bit noisy) - Rod bearings, no mention of them having been done (although depending on when in 03 it was made it might have had the recall done, although that was probably a lot of k's ago) best to assume they need doing. - interesting that it says the clutch and SMG pump are pretty new, seems odd that clutch would need replacing being an SMG as the SMGs are usually lighter on the clutch than a person (having said that it's more than 200k so who knows). There's no mention of other running gear, bushings, suspension, etc. if it's all original it's probably pretty tired after 200k, would be good to get the list of invoices as to what's actually been done. Re vert/coupe. Honestly my opinion is to buy whichever you like. As others have said the verts are usually valued heaps lower in the States, I'm not sure to what degree that carries over to here though, there's not been a lot of throughput of E46 M3s on trademe in the last year so a bit hard to gauge prices.

In my PA lance I get like 10+ washes out of the bottle. It doesn't use that much out of the bottle to create the foam. The stock stuff with waterblasters aren't foam guns, just mixers. I found stock one didn't clean anything off my car but a foam gun you can almost get away with not washing the car afterwards. I didn't listen to this, but the demo 4:30 and 6:00 is a good illustration. PA unit makes really good foam that sticks to the car. Cheap units may also do the same as PA, but I have never used one.

The Bosch I got actually comes with one, very similar if not the same as the Karcher unit, about 600mls. It's just that I've read many reviews that suggest all of the stock ones suck compared to aftermarket equivalents. This remains to be seen of course in my case. I was thinking that if I can pick up a brass unit for ~$25 from China I might as well try it, but I'd be disappointed if I got the wrong size and later regretted that 25 bucks simply because I didn't ask about the size. But your note has been helpful, it seems like I wouldn't need the bigger capacity, cheers.

I not really that knowledgeable compared to the likes of some other more experienced members who are experts in wheel/track geometry etc. But i know how to understand and decode tyre size numbers and calculate wheel width vs offsets with respect to a certain car from trying various wheels etc. its really just information comprehension. also i know how to properly google search a lot of stuff haha

In regards to the throttle, have you tried enabling linear throttle? I found mine a ton nicer to drive with that turned on as the throttle was far easier to control and more predictable.

Hey guys, These are the results I got with the H&R Sports which I just had installed at Hyperdrive: So far I'm very happy with the height and ride. The front is flush with the tyre which is what I was hoping for, and at the back is almost as low with a very small gap. Overall the car is looking awesome. The ride feels pretty much the same as with the original M-Sport springs (maybe 10% stiffer). Already it's low enough to scrape the front bumper in some parking spots so I wouldn't want to go any lower.

i would say it doesnt matter but im more curious why 255/35 is not available as this is the standard size tyre for the style 193 or any other 18" staggered set ups for a lot of sedans.

I know a bit about the M103/4, from MB, AMG and Brabus. When that controller gives up, throw it all away and go MegaSquirt, Link or Haltech. It's cheaper. This was mine. And yes - two of the coil packs did give up...
