2 pointsWhy didn't you just ask us at the monthly bimmersport meet? i find the chances of you posting this straight after seeing Jeff's e36 quite interesting. We were there, we run stretch, it would be the easy thing to do, no?

1 pointHey guys, I recently picked up my first BMW, first European car actually, thought I'd say hi I am the proud new owner of a 2002 530i M Sport Here she is I'm still working on a name, nothing has jumped out at me so far, I've been spending last couple of weeks searching forums, googling etc some issues/thing I want to change, but seeing as I'm a novice with BMWs, I get a bit confused with the different chassis, do other problems from one chassis work for my E39 (when i say problems, I'm talking very minor, aesthetic really) and so on, some threads are 5 years old, dead links, missing pics, has something better come out since then and so on. Thats where I'm hoping you guys, with your wealth of knowledge, can point me in the right direction. This probably isn't the right place for my list of issues, so I'll try to keep them in the correct sub-forum. But yeah, if you're from The Naki, keep an eye out for me. Cheers, Dion

1 pointHey all, so I have recently sold my jappa and purchased a 2nd BMW...a 2006 325i (E91). Already owned a 2001 320i (E46) which has been the wife's daily driver for kids, etc. The E91 was purchased with the lowering kit and the wheels (20's, a little larger than I would have chosen but seem to suit the car). Looking into finishing the "black out" (kidney grills, taillights, side indicators) and upgrading to FOCAL audio.

1 pointNice looking E39 you have there. Welcome to the forum Dion. Brent, if your moving to the Naki maybe we can start up some coffee meets around there as well???
-
1 pointHow come? The e39 should have a better chassis, but is it because the e34 is more 'raw' and involved?

1 pointSoul for me is a descriptor of of character. Partially inherent in the design but also earnt over time. Does the old stuff have more soul, yes because it have been part of our psyche for a longer period of time, we learn to love the traits of a design good or bad. The new stuff hasn't had this effect yet so is perceived as less soulful even if the designs are equally good. increased cadence of model release makes it even harder to judge. Its also the cadence of model release where bmw could loose its way where designs only need to cover a shorter period of time. Design errors are tolerated because of this bringing with it short bursts of bad product. A "fixed in the next release" mentality combined with a arrogance of "you will have to buy the next model" marketing bs encouraging shorter design service life. The new car buyer will not notice, the second hand owner will damaging the brand name in that segment. I see this in many forms of product development. Is bmw doing this, have to wait till I buy my next "new" car...

1 pointSlight circumstantial, to be fair, but we now know who did it since the spunkbubbling cockwomble told several people in the pub. He drives a white and carbon fibre (look) Skyline R34, and has regularly boasted of the speeds he has 'achieved' along the road outside our house (and other people's houses, obviously). Police aren't interested since they've not caught him. Must've been fast, since all that was heard was "Meeeooooowwwwwwwwwwwwww......................"

1 pointWell, this turned into a clusterf**k quicker than I thought it would I'm popping out for more popcorn, can someone save my seat please??
-
1 pointwhy not this one ?? , better spec than those early cars , has the way better updated heater control system , 4 spd sports auto etc buffalo leather etc , less prone to rust etc this spec drive really nice , I have driven a few other the years .
-
1 pointYeah good point but there's an E28 M535i sitting in the garage that would be my preferred option for some fun driving. The E39 would be more for daily duties, or the plan is. E39 vs E34, I prefer the looks of the E39 to be honest. But each to their own I suppose.

1 pointHi Guys.. New here joined up as I deal/sell a lot of different import cars..lots of BMW'S.. been lurking for info etc on here on and off occasionally! Have owned a few myself great cars BMW.. Personal cars are an X5 M/Sport, 335I M/Sport but then again they are all mine inc the ones I import so I drive different ones daily.. perks of the job I guess! Your question is one that pops up on many forums asked by lots about importing a car personally ex Japan.. if it was that easy there would be no dealers! Costs are basically cost of car + Japan agent fee's + fob costs Japan side + shipping & insurance + NZ GST 15% = landed cost (that's if you buy a non damage high auction grade car!) Then factor in NZ compliance costs + any parts that need replacing ie snow tryes or rotors/pads etc for compliance etc = total cost to land. If the vehicle has no other issues such as being a damaged import! (which would open more worm cans! if you had a dodgy Japan side agent!) say a $10k NZD BMW 130i for arguments sake, would have cost around $16 - $17.5k to land & comply.. don't forget exchange rate costs etc also.. they don't always sell for $10k in Japan! A good reputable dealer would aim for a $2.5 - $3k margin.. Some over price it to allow for yard costs, marketing costs, low ball hagglers etc There's not heaps in it for most dealers.. specially when there's so many competing with same cars in this country. My advice is get one of a good dealer locally.. you may just save yourself from loosing a lot more than the $3k or so dealers make on cars! Hope that gives a bit more of an insight Cheers

1 pointMy bosses Porsche 356 Speedster replica (off an early VW Beetle chassis) is registered as a 2012 or so Porsche (50-60 years) My Lada 2104 Wagon i had many moons ago was a 1992 car even though it arrived in NZ or at least built in 1983 (9 years) My E30 325i Cabby is a 1992 but built August 1990 (19 months) My Ford Transit Custom i just brought is a 2013 but built November 2012 (5 months) Let the buyer beware. Its kind of a legal term used to get around such situations.

1 pointUnfortunately the plastics that are used in the cooling system have a VERY finite lifespan. Once they've gone sufficiently brittle from the heat cycles they just collapse, usually while driving leading to a large steamy puddle of "oh sh*t". As mentioned earlier, these engines really don't tolerate getting too warm, so spend a few dollars now and save a bunch of grief in the future. Pelican parts is a great place to source OEM equivalent parts for reasonable prices - just remember to factor in GST on arrival if you spend more than $400 in one go. Auto tranny servicing is something best left to the pros, replacing fluid is not an easy task, same goes for AC repairs too.

1 pointHere is a pretty crap photo really..ha of the 315/35-17, its got the full weight of the car on it, but its not fully settled. You can imagine that going up and down and fully hitting the lip square on, so thats no good This is the view from the backside. It made me explode with laughter at how large they are, and also how close it is to fitting. I wont have to do as much to the flares as I thought and that makes me grin. I will have to put in a bigger spacer, because this mutha is right on the shock and whilst I could space that out another 5-10mm, its also very close to the exhaust as well, which I may get moved over a bit anyway. Slow progress and I am glad I am going to go with the 315's now, I better get the welding grinding etc done before the weather turns to custard.
-
1 pointLove the build bro, was good talking to you today looking forward to seeing hows this progresses

1 pointsmall update , nothing on the 328ci (except wife denting the drivers door after borrowing it when the alternator failed in her 330iT ) m3 all road legal now , been driving it around for last few days , goes well , needs some new rear trailing arm bushes , probably didn't help the last owner with his incident . rear wheel steering effect
-
1 pointPrefer non-airbag tech II as per my 8 series. Presuming they're compatible. Looks sharper on BBS.
-
1 pointI have often thought my E46 represented the last of the real drivers BMWs and I still really like the e36 Chassis. But how does someone like GM who have made crap for decades get it right while BMW seems to have regressed?
-
1 pointnot just BMW, but most manufacturers. Its just a race to who can have the most electronics. Auto/DCT, electronic aids, self driving cars, etc etc, its all aimed at taking the driver out of the car.
-
1 point^ and the exchange rate at the moment encourages selling overseas. Although my mate is reconsidering exporting his having heard about this sale!
-
1 pointSo I roadtripped to Mokau today in the trusty (surprisingly) Range Rover, to pick up a new steed. Enter a 1962ish Landrover Series 2a SWB ute. The rangerover certainly looked the part towing its dad around! Now I'm going to be busy with a grinder and a welder for some time.
-
1 pointThanks for the suggestions guys, certainly plenty of food for thought. I`m inclined to go for the more modern motors rather than the old dinosaur powerplants. Mainly because we have a pretty good selection. Looking at S54,M54B30,N52B30 or N54B30

1 pointyes, for the cost of the car yard, they need to turn over x units with a $5k margin to make costs. They'll balance that with some units with higher $$ return (prolly same margin) and on it goes. I've a friend who's brought in a few cars through IBC, you take on the risk, and save a little money - if it all goes your way. PS - today's the end of the month, today's the day to SEAL THE BEST DEAL. Tomorrow (1 Feb) is a new month, and your salesman is starting again on his rush to meet budget. First car of the month he'll be fighting to retain margin.

1 pointNice! Good to see another Touring getting looked after. I moved a barrow the other day too, work wagons eh
