3 pointsAfter the weather ruined my chances of painting last week, I managed to get it done on Monday. Some photos during the procedure: The end result: Overall I think it came out pretty good. Color match is not 100%, the roof has some slight streaking and it's got a bit of orange peel (nothing some sand paper won't fix) but it's miles better than what was there and miles better than the spray can job. Overall I am happy. Last weekend I also bought this: It's a mint NA manual 2+2 and I got it for an absolute bargain considering the condition. I've been wanting one for a while so I was very happy to find this one. But as a result, my enthusiasm for the e36 has plummeted. I really like this ZX and am pretty keen to get stuff done on that so I am considering putting the e36 up for sale. Will see how I feel in a couple of weeks once the high settles but I think I'd rather put the money into the ZX. If you guys are interested I can start a thread on that.

3 pointsRockauto is the sh*t for having cheaper options too. FCP does most mainstream options but if you want some obscure brand at 1/4 the price and dont care about longevity, thats where rockauto comes into its own. Ive bought heaps from them for various cars and never had an issue (although its a bit weird the KYBs for my Corolla were made in USA not Japan, didn't know that was a thing, but hey)

1 pointmy favourite mtech 1 in NZ. just cos of the work that the kid has put into it. we've done a full suspension refresh on it. New control arms in the front, new bilsteins and H&R springs. rear subframe out, new bushes, rear diff bush, everything that would need doing he has done. it's so beautiful to drive. New tie rod and rack ends too. the suspension and steering feels so good. plus its soo bloody clean πππ

1 pointThe tool is for manually winding up the electric windows should they fail. Unsure about the phone, just kept it for the business man on the move look. It still powers up.

1 pointNo one is answering so I will. My advice is jump in and give it a go. Most BMWs of the same platform are quite similar driveline-wise. I bought a E36 328i and swapped it across to my 4cyl 316i using the existing gearbox and didn't require any additional parts. The money is in the clutch and flywheel if it's shagged. I'm sure if you get stuck you'll get support on here. Good luck π

1 pointThey are simply βagentsβ that take the adverts from Japanese and U.K. dealers, run them through a currency converter and add on their cut. Risk free for them as they donβt even own the stock and only buy it on your behalf when you commit. With the exchange rate the way it is at the moment the BMW pricing is way above what you could buy a better car for in NZ. Not sure about the JDM stuff, even with the exchange rate I would imagine the pricing is still reasonable.

1 pointYeah used to get my plugs and brakes for my old 135i from rockauto, great prices. much cheaper shipping too at the time
-
1 pointI know the owner and that was my old number plate I had on my business vehicle
-
1 pointI guess not but got it for a good price. I'd say after I fix the window issue and get this sorted i'm about on par for market value with purchase price and maintenance combined. If it produces some more expensive surprises I think I will move it on and go to my original idea of an e36.

1 pointWith some tips from another thread I managed to get the clutch hard line installed in the cabin without taking the dash off and the pedals are now in place and looking great. I made up a wire template of the line before straightening it out enough to get it trough the factory conduit.

1 pointYou definitely do not need to remove the radiator to do the waterpump and thermostat.

1 pointGet your injectors from FCP euro. You'll have change from 2k NZD including shipping, they warranty them for life...and injectors are not a complex job to do at all (they can be coded easily with common software or using PROTOOL if you must $100 bucks). Buy the injector removal tool if your're doing it yourself...worth it 100%

1 pointMaking slow progress lately but managed to replace the driveshaft support bearing and started adding the clutch pedal to the pedal box ready to go back into the car once the clutch hard line is magic'd into place. The new M3 engine and trans mounts arrived also so I can start to fabricate up some mounts. Or I can use the timber mock up, just need some PVA ? The real 50x5 SHS steel should be here soon.

0 pointsTook my car in to get the valve cover gasket changed and got a call back saying the cover itself has been cracked by someone previously mucking around with it. Taking a relatively affordable job to about 1800 all up for a new cover from BMW. Any ideas on somewhere else I could acquire the valve cover from in NZ? Cheers.
